Issue abstract: Norton Family House Rule changes not read by Child device Windows 11

Detailed description: I add Supervision / initiate Instant Lock or any other App settings from a Parent device the Child device will not read those changes and will remain remains the same. Only manually updating the House Rules on the Child device manually makes the changes.

Product & version number: Norton Family Android 7.9.5.8, Windows 25.7.10308

OS details: Windows 11 26100.4652

What is the error message you are seeing? Parent Android App settings not implemented on Child devices.

Could you please reboot the device once and check whether you are receiving the updates instantly? Meantime we shall check our telemetry and backend to see if there are any anomalies.

Hi there,

After Reboot…it’s still not working.

Points to note is that I have :

  • on outbound I have OpenDNS / piHole running to restricts sites / ads
  • on inbound I have inbound Unifi DPI running, with country blocks of China, Bulgaria, Russia and Monaco as well as their standard lists

I have also had issues with my son’s Android phone, but connecting through Norton VPN seems to have resolved these. On his Windows PCs this has not worked, or connecting using ExpressVPN.

Obviously using a VPN to bypass my own DNS controls is wholly inappropriate, but I have just been trying to remove my protocols from the equation so I know that this is an issue between central Norton Infrastructure and the Windows PCs, which I am now certain of.

You can use the telemetry between 11:00 - 12:15 BST 10th August to investigate further.

Thanks for reaching out to Norton family forum.

We generally not recommend trying out Norton Family with other network filtering applications like OpenDNS / piHole / Unifi DPI. Can you try disabling all this and check family functionality.

We would also like to get the logs before disabling and after disabling the network filtering applications. We have sent you more details thorugh a private message on how to collect the logs.
