Norton Family no longer monitoring computer

The computer my son uses was being monitored by Norton Family until a few days ago when it just stopped.  I have read through many forum entries but I'm not really seeing a fix for this.  We have used Norton Family for a long time on other computers without problems.  Again, it was working fine on this new laptop but suddenly stopped.

The laptop is Windows 7.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Norton Family several times.  It appears to be set up (all the setting seem correct, as I set them).  When I boot up the laptop, a message box pops up saying the computer is being monitored, and the paw print remains in the task area.  The household rules look correct.  Everything seems fine.

When I go to various websites from that laptop, nothing is being collected by Norton Family.  My settings are for monitoring only, not blocking (but this is what they were before when they worked).  I log on to Norton Family, and the Web tab always shows "No activity in the past 7 days."

I see many others having similar issues, but I don't see many solutions  Reinstalling did not help me.  Can you help me get this working again?

Thanks.

Jill

No, we don't have the previous computers.  We trade one in when we buy the next one.

The version is 2.8.09.

Thanks,

Jill

jillrmorrison,

Thanks for the update.  The team is checking into the issue and I'll post an update as soon as I get any news on this.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi Katie,

I don't know what has changed, but I just logged on to check the status, and I'm now seeing updates again.  I see a list of the websites I was going to when testing that computer.  The computer has been in sleep mode ever since I posted to the forum initially, so I don't know what has made it start working now.

If it stops working again, I'll repost to the forum.  Thanks very much.

Jill

jillrmorrison,

Thanks for the update.  sure, please let us know if the issue happens again.

Thanks,

Katie

I am having a similar issue.  Norton Family stopped monitoring.  I checked the devices and none were listed under any of my kids???  I have version 2.8.0.9.  I tried to redownload it to my main computer and it had an error.

Now the devices are showing again.  Weird.

I'm having a similar problem. Two kids being monitored on Windows computers. One on Windows 8, the other on Windows 7. Locally, the client seems to be working and blocking websites, but no activity is reported to Family website.

If I reboot the client computer, updates seem to resume, but my kids go at least a week without re-booting.

Any ideas on how to improve this?

Thanks,

buzmanphx

Hi buzmanphx,

I'll be glad to setup a remote session with you.  If you're interested in having a session with me, please send me a private message via the forum for details.

Thanks,

Katie

I'm still seeing the problem as well on a regular basis, and I also believe it corrects itself with rebooting or logging off and back on.  We usually just let our machines go to sleep.  This definitely did not happen before updating this machine to the newer version of Norton Internet Security.  Is this a known problem?

I'm new to NOF and these forums. The forum is not allowing me to post a new thread, so I'm tagging my problem onto this one which is very similar to my problem.

I have NOF installed on 5 different compters. NOF logs all activity on 4 computers. With the other one, the logging is not being recorded all the time. The last time anything was recorded was on August 8th (today is the 12th). And before then. it logged for one day and then skipped three or four days in a row.

I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I got rid of my security software and downloaded Norton 360. I've disabled my malware program. This is DRIVING ME CRAZY. I can't get the blasted NOF to work, and oddly enough, this is the ONE computer where I REALLY REALLY NEED it to work.

Can someone please help me?

Hi rebe88,

I'll be glad to setup a remote session on the PC with the issue.  If you are interested in having a session with me, please send me a private message via the forum for details.

Thanks,

Katie

You asked if your issue is a "known problem". It's certainly well-known to Norton Family users - that's what persuaded me to finally uninstall Norton Family - and I see that it's still a problem.

As you will eventually discover if you agree to a private chat or if you contact Norton Family support, there is no fix for Norton Family when it fails to function properly. The only thing that can be done is to reinstall and hope for the best. This is what will happen if you allow their technician to remote into your computer.

Hi Bulldoggy,

From my records, you have never had a remote session with the Norton Family team members, so I don't know where your comment come from.

Thanks,

Katie
