Norton Family not able to block Settings

I have an Android phone for each of my kids, on one we’re able to block the Settings app and on one we’re not, in fact Norton sees barely any of the apps installed on it. Has anyone else come across this? Is there any way to force it to see all the apps?

Hi @B_P,
We analyzed and didn’t see any issues in our backend. Could you check again if the apps are posted? Also, we have sent a private message, please check.
Thanks,
Norton Family Team

Thank you for your response. No there are still only a few apps showing on Norton Family while the mobile phone has many more. I would like to uninstall the app from the child’s phone and try the process again in case something went wrong but I am now struggling to find out how to do this… Could you help?

HI,
Please follow the steps given in this article to turn off the supervision for the child and once the update is applied in child device, you can go ahead and reinstall the app.
Thanks,

I have the same issue, Settings has disapeared from the App list which is annoying?

Hi @UltimateP,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. We are analyzing this issue, will give an update once the fix is available.

Dear Norton Support,
I would like to raise PRIO of this topic.
I have got the same issue.
Chronologically

  1. Android settings app of my child visible and blocked in the past,
  2. It appears the settings app as accesible for my child with no clear reason,
  3. From this time settings app is not visible in the apps to be block list,
  4. Also the app Is not visible on the blocked app list.
I would like to block it effectively.
    How to do it?
    Regards,
    Michal

Dear @Michal_Gorski ,

Thanks for reporting the issue.

We need further details to troubleshoot and have sent you a private message regarding the same. Kindly check.

Thanks,

Exact same problem as reported here.

I was previously able to block the android settings, but after a reinstall settings was gone from the list of apps available to be blocked and my kid is free to make any updates on the phone’s settings, even removing/disabling the norton parental control app.

This needs to be looked into ASAP, quite a high priority item to be able to block on a phone with parental control app.

Just to give further details, the problem appears to be with how Norton detects the apps. After a new reinstall Settings now appears as something I can block, but google play store is now gone, which is also not great, as we want to limit what apps our kids can have on their phones.

Hi @rms ,

Thanks for sharing the details and glad to know that “Settings” app is now visible for blocking.

We are analysing the issue related to “play store” app and will let you know once it is available.

Our analysis shows that some permissions are missing in the child device. Please ensure all the required permissions are enabled, you can refer to this help document.

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply.

This time around after the reinstall I had issues with giving all the necessary permissions. One of the permissions would not go through, I got a message along these lines “because an app is obscuring a permissions request, Settings can’t verify your response” and one of the permissions would not be granted.
But after a restart once I opened up norton once again it said I was all setup and ready to use.

The issue with the missing apps is a bit strange, as sometimes it’s settings, some other times it’s google play store, another time some other random app, there must be something preventing the norton apps from fetching the entire list of available apps on the phone.
