Norton Family web restrictions not working, web activity not being reported

Hi KatieQ,

I have noticed that I am not seeing any web activity on the parental control dashboard for at least a week now. I know for sure that there has been lots of web activity, as that is a primary activity of our son! He is using Chrome for the browser. The time restrictions seem to be active (most of the time, at least), as it does seem to kick him off at the allotted time. There are some web sites that are on the restricted list that he's able to access, plus some other inappropriate sites as well that should be blocked by category. The new versions of the browsers seem to be much more friendly for offering to disable pesky browser plug-ins that slow down browsing. If this product is going to work, the blocking can't be dependent on a browser plug-in that's easily disabled.

Do you have any suggestions for what's going on and how this can be addressed? As far as I know, the computer is running the latest version of Norton Family, and Win7HP is fully patched. Thanks.

Hi jman4,

If the child is able to access a website that is on your block list, then the program is probably not installed successfully or the child's profile is not configured to associate with his Windows account correctly.

Please click on the Norton Family icon in system try and select "View My House Rules" to see if the forbidden websites are listed.

If not, please uninstall/reinstall Norton Family on the PC.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi KatieQ,

Well, you can add Kaspersky Internet Security to the list of security suites that are not compatible with Norton Family. I ran out of the 30 day trial period for Kaspersky and installed a 30 day trial of Norton 360. As if by magic, the web history is now showing web sites that are being accessed. So, it looks like I should have just stayed with Norton. I've ordered a license and will be installing that when the trial period runs out.
