For the last several weeks, when I boot up Norton 2009 tells me it found “trojan.virantix.b” and blocked it. Then very soon after it tells me that it fixed the problem. But clearly, it hasn’t fixed the problem if it recurs when I reboot.
I’ve run multiple full scans and Norton doesn’t find any problems: it’s only at boot up that it reports the trojan. Additionally, I’ve run Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Malware Bytes and none of them find it. I’ve booted into safe mode without networking and of course there’s no notification because Norton hasn’t loaded. But in safe mode, I’ve also re-run Ad-Aware, Spybot, Malware Bytes, and Norton, and still nothing is found.
I"ve looked at the manual instructions for removal that I’ve found posted on the Internet, but I don’t find any of the files that are supposedly associated with this trojan.
I’m at the point where I’m considering re-imaging the drive just so I can start back at the factory configuration. But as I’d have to re-install all my apps I’m hoping to avoid this. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, what did you do to resolve the issue? Thanks for your help in advance.
