Norton Firewall Issue - everybody must read

Hello everybody in Norton Community. I'm starting this discussion because there is an important matter that needs attention. I have been using Norton products from past 5-6 years and it's a good experience for me but recently I have found an issue that has been bothering me from past 2-3 years. The problem is with Norton Firewall. Today I realized that I was suffering from bad browsing experience with any internet connection I used(from 3G to broadband). I have found that Norton Firewall increases page load time and decreases browsing responsiveness as web browsers(does not matter what browser I use) respond slowly and take lots of time to load a page. I saw instant page load and blazing fast response on other friends' computers(they have slower internet than mine) several times and that made me to suspect on Norton as they don't use Norton. Then I tried several things and found Norton Firewall was the culprit behind this bad browsing experience. I tested several times to make sure.So I'm requesting you guys to disable Norton Firewall and check it out for yourself to find if it's also affecting your browsing or not. Please guys do check it out and let me know. I contacted Norton support and googled the issue but nothing useful was found. Thank you.
[Important notice : whenever you toggle Norton Firewall on or off, close your browser and open again to check properly.]

One of my laptops is a trusty old Dell XPS that I use for malware testing purposes. Its a dual core 2.4Ghz with 1GB of ram. All my computers are set to Yahoo as my homepage using Google Chrome and uBlock Origin. Even from a cold launch my trusted 7 year old Dell takes about 4-5 seconds from start of Chrome launch to full page Yahoo load. That's via wifi about 150-180Mbps.

You wait 2-3 years then decide to post something that none of us could duplicate. You are on an extremely slow internet connection so anything interrupting it will seem major. I am glad your problem is resolved. Is there high speed internet around you?

FYI…I’ve never been infected in my life. Never have had to reinstall Windows every 6 months. I build computers. I fix computers. I fix smart phones and set up home networks. I make house calls for computer repair, mainly malware removal. I gave you sound advice to look into. Thanks and have a great day

@PatsSoxBruins - really??? then I think you never used a 56K dial up connection. Because downloading a 10 mb file in those days with 56k modem was like so big achievement for me at least.I do install my windows in every six every months for a reason and I can bet my PC stays much cleaner than yours. Our purposes aren't same. And for your record I have an experience of more than 10 years with PC. My line connection is very much fine. The ping stays within 20-50 ms and I get constant download speed around 130kbps with IDM. The friend I mentioned has a worse connection than mine. His connection's ping stays 80-200ms(tested ping with different servers) and get download speed around 180kbps. He uses windows defender and windows Firewall and his browsing is blazing fast. I also mentioned maybe your connection speed is too much to make a difference.I am not here to make a quarrel with you mate. I am here to share my experience and I also mentioned my browsing got improved after changing the trust level of the connection to Full Trust in Norton firewall settings.

Your internet connection is not much faster then a 56k dialup. Is there high speed internet in your area? I am on a 200Mbps connection. I have over 10 years plus experience on PC's. Never in my life have I ever needed to reinstall Windows every 6 months. Have had the same installation of 10 since it was released. I said a uninstall and reinstall of Norton. Not Windows. You cannot compare your PC to your friends. You said they aren't running any security. Does that mean it's a Chromebook, Mac or running Linux? Or did you mean that they aren't running any 3rd party security except Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. Line and signal condition have a big factor too. Run a speed test of your connection using multiple devices. When your think you are slow run a speed test. Then check it on another PC and your smart phone. If all 3 have the same problem then it's your connection. Also is this on wifi or ethernet? Have your used both and compared? Ethernet will always be faster and more reliable. How far away are your from your router when using wifi? Is this on a 2.4Ghz or a 5.0Ghz? 5.0 is faster but cannot travel as far. In a nutshell I have Norton Security 22.8 on 7 home computers with no issues in speed. I also have about 12 family members running the same thing with no issues. Hundreds of customers as well. Either running Windows 7,8 or 10. It is very easy to quickly blame your security but there is hundreds of other factors to consider.

Try going to Settings>Firewall, and Reset the firewall. See if that helps.  @ArpanDas

Have you done a full restart ?

@PatsSoxBruins - You're extremely right mate, bitdefender is the worst followed by kaspersky - they literally f**k your system and about that thing I was unable to convince many people. I used different systems of my friends with bitdefender and kaspersky installed, they all are crap. Your provided link "trust level" does seem to be working out a little for me. Thanks mate, as soon as I changed the default "public" to "Full Trust" the browsing experience improved by a little, difference is not significant but it improved. Let's see if any other friend has something else to say.

@PatsSoxBruins - It's not sudden mate, as I mentioned earlier I always thought it was my ISP's fault. I used same for NIS, 360, NS and I always used the latest available Norton product for all three I mentioned. Uninstalling reinstalling?? I clean install my pc every 5-6 months. Last time Microsoft released Anniversary update and downloaded the iso via microsoft toolkit and clean install my pc.

@SendOfJive - Indeed it is a significant decrease. I know all security software slow down browsers but I did not expect that much. I have been using Norton product from past 5-6 years. Maybe your internet connection is too fast to make a difference mate. Previously I was using 4 mbps connection. At that time I had a system with Phenom 1100T and all other specs were mid high and I was using Norton 360 then. I always wondered I have 4 mbps connection but still my browsing is crap and I used to think it is the ISP's problem. Now I have 1 mbps connection and I have been thinking the same thing about ISP being slow. Now a few weeks back when I visited a friend I saw his page load times were instant and blazing fast(he doesn't use security software and uses 1.5mbps connection) then I tried so many things on my pc. I tried disabling auto protect, disabled Browser Protection,  Identity protection and so on with no luck but yesterday I disabled Norton Firewall and restarted my PC and wow my experience was pretty impressive, pages  were responding much faster and page load times were reduced by a noticeable margin. That's why I contacted Norton Support via Live chat and the representative was a moron. I googled it and found no solution, then I visited Norton community to share my experience.

@ArpanDas: you can give the below know-how (re "page load time & browsing responsiveness") a go.

For more help, plz chat w/ Norton Support here.

As SendOfJive said every security will slow a system down somewhat. I have used every single security product out there. BitDefender is the worst followed by Kaspersky, Avast, Avira, AVG and Norton are all very light. I recommend Norton Security 22.8 to all my customers and family. Especially since it is free for Comcast customers. Is the trust level of your network good?

So you ran 3 different version of Norton on the same pc or different? Having an issue for 2-3 years then all of s sudden making a post is odd. Also an adblocker does slow your webpage load times. I use Google Chrome with uBlock Origin. Have you rebooted your modem, gateway or router lately? Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall Norton?

I think what you are saying is that despite the computer and despite what version of Norton you are using you experience a delay?

How much additional page load time are you talking about?  All security software will slow down browsers by a tiny amount.  If you are seeing a significant decrease in page load speed, it is probably something unique with your system, as I have used the product for years and do not experience what you describe.

Thanks for the reply. For your information I must tell you that I don't use any kind of stupid ad-dons on my browsers or any kind of tools like that. I am very much aware now that Norton Firewall is causing the long page load times. I am using Windows 10 Home 64 bit. I have MSI Z97 Gaming 3, i5 4460, 8 GIG of Ripjaws X with R9 280X and 120 GB Samsung 840 Evo as system drive. My previous build with AMD phenom 1100T had the same problem but at that time I was unaware of the issue. I'm using Norton Security Standart Edition, before that I was using Norton 360, before that Norton Internet Security. All had the same issue. I never used any other security software.

Hi......Could you please provide your system specs. Which Norton as you currently using and what version? I have Norton Security 22.8 running on Windows 10 64bit. This is on about 20 pc's. Not any issues at all. Different computers have different specs. Are you running any other security? So your internet is only on a 3G cell network? No high speed internet?
