I was getting a message that I exceeded the maximum number of allowable installations although ghost is still installed on the same windows 2000 machine and was never reinstalled or installed anywhere else.
I contacted support via chat and after being told the product is "no longer supported" they asked me to come here in the community forums. Along the way of chatting they asked me for my product key which I let them know what it is.
Magically after that conversation,. when I attempt to activate the message changed to " there is problem with your product key.
I chatted with them again only to be told there are no records, and to come here (community.symantec.com ) for solutions.
Over the years, every so often, usually after a reboot Ghost would come up asking to be activated and all the time I thought that was symantec "checking up on me" to make sure it's a legit installation, and it always got activated until sometime Friday dec 29.2012. Now symantec refuses to activate or "support" it, in effect turning my installation of Norton Ghost into a virtual doorstop.
So here I am, lets see what happens,
