I am trying to convert from an older laptop hard drive to a newer one. The newer one is actually a little bit smaller, but when I copy the drive, everything is fine. I switched out the drives, and started to load Vista. I got to the login screen, it accepted my password, it says “Welcome” then “Preparing Your Desktop…” and that’s it. Eventually after a while, it goes to a blue screen not an OMFG BLUE screen, but almost a temporary desktop color screen…. The error Windows gives me is “rundll.exe: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.” I have checked the boot order in the bios and made the hard drive #1. Does anyone know how to fix this?
