Norton Ghost 14.0 - XP Won't Boot After Restore

I'm hoping somebody can help me here.

I recently purchased Norton Ghost 14.0 and used it to make a backup of my entire 'C' drive in anticipation of installing a new hard drive.

I did the backup and had it confirm the backup success after completion.  Everything looked good.

I installed my new hard drive, did the 'restore', and everything looked to work.  Until I tried to boot. Got to a blinking cursor and 'nothing'.

Did the restore again . . . same pattern.  Everything looked to work, but it wouldn't boot.

Tried a different restore point that was earlier (before I had installed application programs after a clean XP rebuild).  Same story.

One thing, I created the restore point from an 80 GIG HD and was restoring to a new 320 GIG.  I suspect that has something to do with it.

I saw an option during the restore (checkbox) that said "Resize During Restore" or something like that. but it was blank / unchecked. But here's the rub.  Nothing I could do would allow me to check that box.   I tried to put an "X" in it . . . nothing.  It's like the field was disabled, or it needed to be initialized during the backup process, but I don't remember getting the option and there's nothing around the same in the documentation . . . ugh.

I finally gave up and rebuilt the drive with a fresh install of XP, but am now at the point of having to re-install all my applications.

It's this very thing that I was trying to avoid when I bought this program.  I'm willing to try and restore again, as I want to be able to use this product to shorten the time for XP refreshes, but only want to wipe out the install I just finished if there's something different than the obvious.

Does the disk need to partitioned before the restore?

Insight, suggestions, similar experiences / solutions would be greatly appreciated.
