Is is possible with Norton Ghost 14 to create boot disk/CD that will allow me to do “offline” backups/clone/restore something that old ghost was able to do or do I need to look to buiss… software like Ghost Suite 2.5?
Hello,
When you purchased NG14 it should have come with a recovery disk or a .iso image if you bought the software online. You will need to burn this image to a startup DVD using software such as Nero or many others which know how to burn an ISO image. If you have your backup on standard drives such as regular HD, USB drive, etc then the default recovery disk will probably work and should be easy to test out by booting to that DVD and see if it recognizes your backup media.
Otherwise you can select "Tasks/Create Recovery Disk" and it will walk you through how to create a custom recovery (startup) disk. This process will add any custom drivers you need for things like RAID array, DVD, etc and incorporate that into your recovery disk.
Hope this helps.

The way i understand recovery disk will only allow you to “recover” from exisitng backup/restore point but it will not allow you to create new backups?
I don't recall Ghost ever having the ability to do a new backup from the recovery disk but I could be wrong. Why would you need to anyway? The idea is supposed to be that you have it for disaster recovery when you can't boot your computer or whatever. It seems only restore capability is necessary from the recovery CD.

I believe the recovery CD does allow something like cloning a hard drive though. Is this what you might be remembering? Cloning a HD is under the 'umbrella' of disaster recovery but is not the same thing as a backup.
Backups are not considered disaster recovery which is all the recovery CD is intended for.
