Norton Ghost 14 locks up computer when trying to run backup and other disappointments

I bought North Ghost 14 because I wanted a good backup tool and I was pleased with its earlier versions I've been using so far I'm regretting my decision.

I've had the software for a long time and and have successfully backed up my computer once. Or maybe better more accurately I can make only one backup if none was made before.

Whenever I tell it to run a backup it runs for hours, which I expected, but then it freezes the entire computer. I often can't  move the mouse and [ctr]+[alt]+[del] doesn't work, no other key combinations work, and I can't click on anything.

I'm running Windows XP Proffessional 32bit with 1GB RAM. I'm running an IBM T42 laptop that uses 1 ATA HDs (160GB) of which aprox 99GB are free. HDD is divided into 2 partitions 50GB system and 100GB data (backup). I was backing up on second partition (but tried also other disk connected through USB 2.0)

I have already tried backing up with many different settings also default ones. Nothing is working.

It doesn't seem to always stop in the same place. Someday it ran for all day and locked up sometime this morning. Another day it only ran a few hours before locking up.

I've tried to use support but they can't say anything else than "please try to reinstall the software". Well I've tried.. more than once. In the meantime I've also reinstalled my Windows (another reason) but it didn't helped too.

I have decided now to stop using this ... software because I'm tired of it. Norton's Products used to be some time ago great software reliable and worth of  recommendations but now I am looking for alternatives. Enough is enough.

I regret spending money on it.

Same with Norton Internet Security earlier it was the best fast, reliable and I always recommended it to my friends, but now it is slowing down my computers (3 license pack used one on same laptop and one on much better PC) both are running fine until AV is installed. I understand it's need an overhead but why so much?? Without it computers works much faster. Moreover it is often not recognizing a viruses many other software does Avira, Kaspersky or Zone Alarm (reactions when using USB from not checked source what NIS was not recognizing). So i switched to one I can more rely on and which is not slowing my computer so much. Second thing after LiveUpdating with NIS I often need to play with reinstalling, switching off and on WIFI  for many hours to bring my computer to order, because suddenly after rebooting after LiveUpdate it was not usable. I am sick and tired of this. And only answer from support "please reinstall your software"... thanks... so much I can do it without your help... even Google is more helpful... but  solutions to that are not described there. Problems occurred on 2009 and 2010 I was hoping upgrade will help but it didn't. There is also no 100% sure solution, just doing anything with drivers till it starts working. Sometime it works  in one way sometime in another... And as long it was happening on both my machines with slightly different configuration I don't thing this is accident this is just a rule like by many other people on the Internet.

So now I am switching my software for something I've tried out  in Trial versions and was working great. I will loose about 2 years of my subscription but I my patience has ended.

I probably won't go back to Norton's software. If you can't help me with your software or anyone else then why should I pay for it? That are known problems, more people is affected by them - it can be found on Google, unfortunately neither I or other affected people found solution.

You can consider it actually as good-by-post, because I have already lost hope you can do anything with this. And I wont be loosing anymore money on your software if it doesn't do what it is for.

Sincerely,

Disappointed Customer
