I installed Norton Ghost 14 on a fresh install of 64 bit Vista Ultimate with SP1. After performing a LiveUpdate, both of the DVD drives disappeared and are no longer visible in Windows Explorer. After doing some research on this issue, I tried installing the latest driver from Gear Software, to no avail. Their Knowledge base suggested that this behavior can be due to the UpperFilters registry entry. Applying their resolution did nothing to solve the problem.
I've even tried to perform the registry fix as stated in a similar issue w/ Norton Ghost 12 that was posted on these forms. This fixed the problem somewhat, as the optical drives came back but I get the following error:
"Application popup: Windows - No Disk : Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x000007FEFDF17240 0x0000000000000004 0x000007FEFDF17240 0x000007FEFDF17240"
Symantec's Technical Support has not been helpful in resolving this issue either, as one technician suggested reinstalling the operating system (even after indicating several times that it was a fresh install) to another suggesting that the installation was at fault and the Norton Removal Tool needed to be ran and Ghost reinstalled.
Ghost itself works, and backups of the system are being made successfully to a 1TB external hard drive, however the optical drives are still missing, and certain applications which require the CD/DVD to run cannot be ran on the affected machine, through the temporary work around, which involved creating a network share to allow a DVD drive to be mapped to the affected machine.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
