I re-installed the program and it ran fine this time. Seems that something went wrong on the initial install.
Please let us know if you see this problem again. Thanks!
I have been trying to move my C drive to a larger drive for 2 days. I have installed Norton Ghost 14, tried it to no avail, removed it, reinstalled it again and still nothing.
When I try to copy the entire C drive to the new bigger blank drive G, I go to tools, copy my hard drive, and work through the wizard. I have checked:
Set drive active(for boot OS)
Disable Smart Sector
Ignor Bad Sectors
Copy MBR
The Destination Partion type and drive letter to be assigned are Grayed out.
I have finished this process with the copy taking place, but when I put the new drive in to boot the system it doesn't work and still has assigned the G drive letter.
What am I doing wrong????
Thanks, Numbers.
Sounds like you have your new drive already formated. I used a new drive with no format or partitions. You might try that. Also enable Smart Sector. Otherwise the copy will not use the full capacity of your new drive.
Thanks. Been nice if they would have put that in the help files. Would have saved a lot of time.

I've got the exact, same problem, only mine does not correct when I delete the volume on the destination drive or enable smart sector copying. Does the resident Norton tech have any suggestions for making this program work right?
This really should not be this arcane for the single, primary function for which most of us have been buying and rebuying this program through the years!
Hi bullbleep,
I would first recommend contacting our Customer Support team through the product's Help & Support link. Or you can visit the below site to contact our free Customer Support:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/selectproduct_ts.jsp
If you have already done this and they could not resolve your issue, please let us know. If this is the case, please provide as many details as possible. Thanks!
I expierience the same issue as Solrac. Some days ago I did a copy from IDE to IDE under XP SP3 without any issues. Now I tried to copy an older SCSI drive to IDE under XP SP2 I get the message "This operation cannot be performed while windows is running.....".
Might be that this problem is related to the differend XP SPs?

It's clear that more is wrong than just a few simple user issues here. Please retire this product, Ghost 14, and assign this engineering team to a year or two of iso9000 updates for the company as a whole. After reading the large number of similar email threads on this subject, anyone who values their PC's data will run to another company or another platform. Shame on you folks for letting such a good product fall into such an unfixable and/or untrustworthey state. Next step, suggest we all reformat our drives right? Just forget it and take my advise, return this product if you can, buy something else or nothing - either choice will be more reliable than this product or the many shades of answer the tech support team is forced to give us in their feeble attempt to save this product for one more day of consumer mismanagmenet.
