Just to be clear, you are seeing a large incremental image that is being created, correct? It’s not a base image, right? This could be related to any defragmentation that has taken place before this incremental is scheduled to run. Since the images are sector-based, any changes to the disk on this level is considered a change that must be recorded by the incremental. When do you have your defrag scheduled? If this is not the case, please provide us with the information on the incrementals and base images, complete with full filenames, dates and times. Thanks!

I have installed Vista from scratch 3 days before. That day, i made a base backup. The day after installing, an incremental backup was done. And the day after that, the INCREMENTAL backup with a size of 17 GB (complete uses space) was done.

No defrag was done by me. I don't know, if vista is doing this in the background automaticly. If Vista is doing so, that could be the reason. If not, ..... ???

Greetings

Stefan

It certainly is a possibility as Vista now automatically defragments.  You might go look at its schedule.  Then adjust things so that the defragmentation occurs just before the base image of each recovery point set.  This will minimize having large incrementals due to defragmentation.
