Ghost 15.0 running on Windows 7.
I was testing some software the other day and so I created a full Ghost image before testing, installed the software I was testing, and then later restored the Ghost image. Later that day I was looking at my Windows Updates and saw that all of my update history was missing. I Googled a bit and found that the update history is stored in folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore in a file called "DataStore.edb". I went to my image backup to restore the file and found that the file was not in my image backup. I looked in other image backups that go back to May of this year and none of my image backups contain this file.
I've spent about 3 hours on the phone with tech support, and they are as baffled as I am. Could someone who is doing full image backups under Windows 7 check to see if that file is contained in their image store?
The tech had me try a file and folder backup (which I normally never use) and the file was backed up correctly. Also, I did a full image backup using the SRD and that also backed the file up correctly. So, it's only when doing image backups under Windows that it fails to back up this file. I'm assuming Windows has some sort of lock on this file, but isn't the volume shadow copy stuff supposed to handle locked files? What other files is Ghost not backing up???
