Norton Ghost 15.0 Restored Hard Drive fails after 24 hours and power down/ re-boot

I have an HP Compaq NC6000 laptop running Windowx XP SP3. My hard drive failed about two months ago. I had only back ups of my documents. So after reloading Windows, all of my other programs, and going through the gauntlet of Windows Updates, I was back in business. I purchased Norton Ghost 15.0 to keep from having to go through all the pain I just experienced. I made a backup of the entire drive. To test the backup, I restored my computer using the Recovery CD and the newly created backup file. All seemed fine, however, now if I power down the laptop for more than approx 24 hours, I get a Disk Read Error, press ctrl-alt-del to restart. I can recover the hard drive, and all works fine again. If I leave the computer on, I can use everything as normal. However, if I have to reboot to install, say, Windows Updates, the drive gives Disk Read error. I first suspected my CMOS battery..no its fine. I have moved the hard disk to another Identical Laptop with the same results. I tried fixing the MBR, no luck. Tried fixing the boot.ini file, no luck. Scanned for viruses, none found.  Any thoughts? Its almost like my Windows XP is now running the OS that was on the Recovery CD.
