Norton Ghost 15 : Back Up hangs at 94%

I recently switched from IDE to AHCI on my Windows 7 X64 system.

Now Norton Ghost 15 Backup from HDD to USB Expansion Drive hangs at 94% showing 1 second to go.

Would welcome any assistance. Thanks in advance.

Just curious - did you switch out hardware, or was there both IDE and SATA on your motherboard? Also, does this happen often, or is it sporadic?

For starters, go into Ghost and delete the backup job completely. Create a whole new folder on the USB drive, recreated the job, and try again. Don't designate the old backup folder as the location for your backups.

No change in hardware.

I just switched on the AHCI option in BIOS after I had made the appropriate change in Windows Registry.

I don't back up to a specific folder, just to the root of the expansion drive.

After the problem first occurred I retried 2 or 3 times with no success.

Ah, ok. My guess at this point is that Ghost is still looking at the same drive GUID. Let's refresh the way Ghost sees the drives.

Go ahead and delete the job altogether like I said in my previous post. Then click start>run> 'services.msc' and his enter. Stop the Norton Ghost service.

Go to the C:\Users\All Users\Symantec\Norton Ghost\History and delete all files here. If they are hidden, you may need to change the view to show hidden files.  Do the same and delete the files in the C:\Users\All Users\Symantec\Norton Ghost\Schedule folder.

Reboot the machine, recreate the backup job, and try again.

Following these problems I uninstalled Ghost and cleaned out all residual file and registry entries using Revo Uninstall.

I am currently using Windows Back Up.

When time permits I will re-install Ghost and try again.

Have re-installed Ghost.

Backup of drives completed OK.
