Norton Ghost 15 does not recognize my Hard drive for back

Hi guys,

I am having issue with Norton Ghost 15. I am trying to back up my system to the external drive but the ghost does not show the the Hard drive when I go to Define New Back up. I have attached the partinfo.txt. Any help to resolve this issue is appreciated. I have backed up system image numerous times successfully on other PC's running Win 7. But this is the first time I am doing it in XP SP3. So not sure if it is Windows issue or Ghost issue.

Thanks

Riddhi B

No the External HD is USB 2.0. Attached is the screenshot of Disk Management.

Your screenshot hasn't been approved for general viewing yet. Hopefully not much longer.

Disk Management doesn't see your external HD either. Does it appear in Disk Management after a restart? Have you tried different USB ports?

If the external HD is plugged into another computer, does it appear in Disk Management?

Well, the external HD was not connected when I took the screen shot. When I connect the External HDD, I do see it in the Computer Management. Let me know if you need a screenshot of that too.

Thanks,

Riddhi

Yes please. A screenshot with the USB HD connected. And another partinfo taken at the same time as the screenshot.

Attached is the screenshot of the computer management when the external HDD is connected. I have also attached the partinfo taken at the same time. The last attachedment is when I try to define the new back up, Ghost does'nt show my local hard drive either.

Thanks,

When you are able, can you check

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Does it contain an UpperFilters value?

Yes it does, attached is the screenshot

Your computer is a challenge. In the forum, we've see the following issues related to drive letters and Ghost...

overlapping partitions

missing partitions in Disk Management

missing drive letters in Disk Management

missing volumes in partinfo.txt

In partinfo you have one missing volume (at the very end). That a new variation.

Can you try this...

Download BootIt BM. There is a 30 day trial usage. Unzip the file and make a boot CD.

double click makedisk.exe, next
dot in BootIt Bare Metal, next
dot in I accept the agreement, next
don't select Image for DOS (GUI), next
dot in Mouse Support Enabled, next
 dot in VESA Video, next
dot in Video Mode 1024*768 - 64K Colors, next
dot in Partition Work (Don't put a dot in Normal), next
don't choose any Device Options, next
tick in Enable USB 1.1 (UHCI), next
tick in Align partitions on Cylinders, next
 ignore Additional bootitbm.ini Options, next
select your CD burner drive letter (you can use a CD-RW or a CD-R disc)
 Finish

Boot from the CD with the USB HD disconnected.

You should only see one partition. Probably called MBR 0

Is there an E near the word Partition?

Is there *Errors Exist* on the same "line" as MBR Partitions and Actions?

click MBR 0 to highlight the line and click Properties. In Additional Information, any errors reported?

Plug in your USB HD

In the Bus field, click the drop down arrow and choose USB. Wait 10 seconds.

Thanks, I will try this weekend  and update the results.
