Norton Ghost 15 Launch Extremely Slow Because of IP Address change

I have successfully used Ghost 15 for the PC's on home network for over a year using NES as backup location .  Recently went with Uverse for internet and they added a new gateway/router.  This changed the IP address for the NES.  I went into Ghost and changed settings to backup to the new IP address.  Now whenever I launch Ghost it takes forever to start, with a popup window that reads "Connecting and Retrieving information...", and a green progress bar that gets close to the end and then stops.   I've tried to delete references to the old IP address, but that just hangs the program.   For one of the computers on the network I fixed by uninstalling Ghost (which is a challenge in and of itself) and then reinstalling.  I suppose I could to that for the rest, but I was hoping there  might be a simpler fix.

I'm not sure what a NES is but if a NES is like a NAS you need to make sure windows can access it.  If windows can't access it Ghost can't either.

Not sure what version of windows you are using but verify you can access the network share with windows.

For Vista\Windows 7 you should be able to access it though Computer > Network

or through the search bar by typing \\ServerName\Share

With XP through "My Network Places" or from the runbox \\ServerName\Share

You can replace "ServerName" with the IP Address, but unless everything has a fixed address using the computer name will let it connect even if the addresses change later.

If you can't connect with windows I would suspect a firewall blocking it or some setting has been changed in the new router.

Thank you for your suggestions.  Windows 7 can access the NAS (I'll claim poor typing skills), and I was able to successfully run a backup job with the new IP address.  However, Ghost is still showing the same symptoms on launch after that backup.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

When you boot up Ghost scans all of the disks. I'f there have been any changes it may get upset and display an error message. Or it may just take a longer period of time to resolve. I have a total of 7 HDDs connected when I'm serious about playing and it takes a while to get the little green checkmark to cover the Ghost icon. With fewer drives but adding a network to the mix I'm guessing that it might take a bit longer.

I do not know of any way to make Ghost15 run faster or operate more efficiently. Sorry :smileyfrustrated:

Thank you for your comments.  I know it is at least looking for the previous IP address becauset there are several references to it even after I switch over backup to the new IP.   But when I try to remove those references at the appropriate places in Ghost, it stops responding.  Looks like reinstall may be my only option.
