I recently purchased Norton Ghost 15. Two of my children are leaving for college soon (one 8 hrs away, the other 12 hrs away) and want to supply them with a recovery disk and a mirrored hard drive. I have not installed the software yet but want to know if I can install the software on one computer, image the hard drive, create a Recovery disk, uninstall the software and repeat on the 2nd computer.
After I install on the first computer I am concerned the license will be rejected. My less desireable option is to install the software on a 3rd computer and just image the hard drives. This eliminates the ability to create recovery disks but is an option.
A better solution (in my opinion) would be to purchase a second copy and 2 removable external drives instead of spare internal drives.
What your planning will only preserve the system how it is now, before they go off to school and will do nothing to protect there schoolwork or data.
I would split the existing hard drive so they have a good sized data partition and then schedule Ghost to do regular backups onto that partition. I would also setup the removable drive as an offsite location for Ghost to copy the images too.
As long as they periodically plugged in the external drive, Ghost would copy the recovery points onto it.
That way not only the system but all the data is regularly backed up.
I assume they must be laptops, they have a way of getting dropped or stolen, expecially if your kids are taking them to class every day.
