I recently bought Ghost 15 for the purpose of duplicating an HP DV7T 230GB laptop drive over to a 500GB which I then wanted to try running an upgrade on to Win7 (didn't want to destroy my original in case anything went wrong and I use this laptop for work). Tried just about everything for 3 days but could never get past the Vista Ultimate (64bit) splash screen after which it would generate a BSOD stating there was insufficient disk space. No other useful info on that screen other than the ..07E stop error.
My procedure consisted of:
1. cloning c: and d: (recovery partition) to an external usb drive.
2. creating the SRD.
3. removing HD and installing larger blank HD.
4. perform recovery using SRD.
(all seems to go well until the reboot which then constantly generates bsod)
Had also tried only recovering only C: (as there was also a D: recovery partition with no luck)
I even went so far as using my Vista CD to create the ntfs partitions and also delete the partitions on the new drive before performing a recovery.
After 3 days of trying different options, resetting MBR, looking into bitlocker (which wasn't even turned on) I saw a thread about trying Acronis True Image. Gave their trial version a try and approximately 3hrs later, the new drive was up and running (I'm using it to post this reply). Even used a USB memory stick for the recovery (as I didn't even want to bother burning another boot CD! Will definitely look into buying the license for that product now!
Not sure WHERE the Ghost failure point was in all of this. I was thinking it was 64bit-related, then bit locker, mbr, partition error, bios problem, all to no avail. Never did see anything specific to my stop error on any of the forum threads but perhaps because not many people have Vista Ultimate 64bit edition. It can only be because both products apparently seem to use different methods for creating the backup.
Granted, I bought Ghost because there was a $50 rebate on it which means I only paid $19. Had I tried Acronis first, I could've had almost 3 days free to work on other things, like my upgrade.
Will be trying Ghost 15 on a Vista Home Premium 64bit machine in a couple of days. Will post the results of that here as well for reference.
