Norton Ghost 15 or 14 and Restoring C drive to same Hardware.

Greetings:

I have two machines. One is just a few weeks old and the second is quite a few years old. Both are running under XP Pro SP2. I'll start with the newer machine first.

I found this link to restore an image of a smaller drive onto a larger drive.

At that time, I had Ghost 14 installed on both machines. I found the instructions to be very clear and well written. Thank you AllenM. I had absolutely no problems installing an image from a smaller drive onto a larger drive on my newer machine.

Now when I tried to install an image from a smaller drive onto a larger drive on my older machine, it would not work. Just to be clear. I made an image of the smaller drive of the newer machine and installed that same image onto a larger drive on the newer machine.

I then made a separate image of the smaller drive of the older machine and was not successful at installing that image onto a larger drive on the older machine.

The instructions state, Note that you need to select "Filename" from the drop down menu and NOT "Date" and that is what I selected in the procedure on both machines.

During the process of installing the image, on both machines, I had access to Check for file system errors after recovery, Resize restored drive, Partition type, Set drive active for booting, Restore original disk signature, and Restore MBR. The problem was, after the process was complete, the older machine would not boot. I had three different spare drives and painstakingly followed the procedure with each drive and had the same results, thinking it might be a bad drive. And yes the drives are good functioning drives.

I wanted to step up to Ghost 15 and thought this would be a good time. Why did I do this? Just seamed like a good idea at the time. I made an image, with Ghost 15, of the smaller drive on the older machine and tried to install it on a larger drive. No success. Now with Ghost 15, when I was going thru the process, there were some issues. Number one, Date Restore Anywhere: Not Permitted . Number two, FileName Restore Anywhere: Not Permitted . Number three, Edit Resize drive was grayed out or dimmed out.

I hope I am clear in explaining what happened. To me, text is more difficult then speech, I know I am talking about two different versions of Ghost but it is the same issue with my older machine. I really do not care which version of Ghost I have to use to accomplish this task.

Thank you for your help.
