Norton Ghost 15 Recovery Failing

The Norton Ghost 15 backup restore we have keeps on crashing.

A professional data recovery shop has stated the following … “I am 99% sure that the program crashing is due to the read errors in the recovered files. Since the backup files are compressed, when errors are encountered in the backup stream while decompressing (which is simply a type of mathematical algorithm), the program will either deal with the error elegantly or it will overflow (which seems to be the case here). I don't know if Norton has developed their own compression algorithm or if they use modified versions of standard compression algorithms documented on the internet, but if Norton doesn't mind disclosing that information to us we might be able to write a utility to decompress utilizing that algorithm. We "might" be able to write a utility in such a way that it can resync after an error in the stream.”

Can anyone help with this?
