Norton Ghost 15 Runtime errors on installation under Vista Home Premium

I’m helping a friend install Norton Ghost 15 on his wife’s Dell laptop. The laptop is running Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 and is up-to-date with all other updates.

The install process was interrupted by several runtime error messages (VProSvc.exe, VrProTray.exe etc.) however it completed with a successful installation message and a reboot. Unfortunately, any attempt to run the program results in a series of runtime errors. Moreover, runtime error message are now also appearing in any number of other instances (e.g. trying to view a jpg or even trying to delete an icon from the desktop!

Having browsed the Community, this doesn’t seem to be an unknown problem but, given that some of this dialogue is 2 or 3 years old, I’d appreciate advice on what is currently regarded as the best approach to resolve things.

In anticipation that the solution seems likely to lie with C++, I’ve attached an extract of the installed programs list (complete with its several instances of C++). From this, it will also be seen that the laptop has both NIS and NU installed.

I’m holding off attempting any solution pending advice. Ideally, I’d like to avoid use of the Norton removal tool if at all possible.
