Hi, I have Norton Ghost 15 and have been backing up my C: drive for my Windows 7 Professional Install. I haven't attempted to try a restore yet but hope it would work if I needed to. However, yesterday I noticed this "Unallocated partition" when I installed Windows 7 64 bit. Apparently it creates this because it's part of the partition manager. The only way to avoid it is to apparently have only one drive installed at the time of OS install or use a third party paritioner before doing the windows install. I don't want to bother trying that but need to know if this parition needs backed up in order to successfully restore windows 7 in the event of an issue??
Please take a look at the screen shot below and tell me what you think. I've read that important boot files, etc exist on this parition from my google searches. If so, it sounds like I'd need it backed up as well. However, I'm unable to do this since it's not an active partition. I didn't find any post on this issue. Thx P.S I've used Norton 2003 in the past but that always shut down to DOS before backing up my XP load. It worked. I've always been skeptical of Backup software that does backups while the OS is active. I sure hope Norton 15 won't let me down!
