Hello
I had a problem with cloning a windows 7 boot disk and makeing it bootable.
The two first times I cloned it by copying only the c:\ partition on the source disk.
But when I tried to boot it I got the message "BOOTMGR missing".
I copied the MBR and made the disk active but to no avail.
I did it twice and I am quite sure I am not the first to do this.
The solution was however the following:
First make a 110 Mb (megabytes) (Maybe 100 is enough) partition and clone that by:
- Select "Copy my hard drive".
- Select "Show hidden drives".
- Select the 100 mb partition.
Copy this 100 Mb hidden drive to your new empty partition by selecting
- Set drive active (for booting OS)
- Copy MBR
- Destination partition type : Primary
- Drive letter : None
After this copy is done you can clone the rest of the diskt (c:\)
- Select "Copy my hard drive" again.
- Select the C:\ drive as source and copy this to the unused partition on your new hardddrive.
- Set drive active (for booting OS)
- Copy MBR
- Destination partition type : Primary
- Drive letter : None
(I'm not sure if MBR is needed the second time but it probaly does not make a difference)
After this procedure my disk booted like a charm. I made two attempts before I got this idea.
Enjoy
