I am fairly new to ghost so don't have much of an idea. anyhow here is the problem
I completed a backup of my files (music and picture mainly). I then moved all the backup to another drive and formatted the original location and then re-partioned it. Then I moved all the backup files back again.
It seems I have lost the recovery point (think it is *.s2vi). I need to restore these files.
All i have is the original *.fbf files all broken into individual directories.
I have tried going to Home > Recovery My Files > File menu > import backup destination
(the backup files are stored in Z:\norton backups\File Backup Data\File Backup Data\<fbfFiles_81**>
Now I have tried just importing the individual folder <fbfFiles_81a> and also the entire folder tree.
Now the import loads ok. however when I try and search the files I get the following error
Cannot retrieve backup history
I then click more details and get
-Cannot retrieve drive backup history.
--Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: startIndex
I am using Windows XP Pro, and I cannot find the restore point since i moved everything around. i am assuming in moving it I have lost it. What can I do. My music and picture is around 40gb worth and well music i can get again my picture i am lost without. HELP ME please. what can I do
Delete all the contents of the FileBackup folder. It contains only the index of the files to be backed up and restored. So no issues in deleting all the contents of that folder. After that, import the backup destination folder again and search for the files to recover.
Enter the search criteria as *.* to find all the files in the backup. If that doesn't work, try importing the fbfFiles folders one by one and search with criteria *.* after each import. I know its tiresome but I dont see any other option.
Fixed. After a long time of stuffing around I thought bugger this, I used the restore cd's that came with my computer. then installed ghost and tried the import backup again.
IT WORKED!!
I think it was becuase I did the original backup in windows Vista, then formatted the machine and installed winXP. That is the only thing i can think of that would have been the problem.
Thanks heaps for the help but now I worked it out.
