I am having a problem with Windows 7, it rhinks it is not legal, but it is. I have mirrored my complete disk. What I think I want to do is a resoration of the operating system, and then reinstall everything else from the backup but I cannot find an option to do that. Halp, please.

LGHaber,
I think we can fix this. Can you tell us how you did Copy Drive? Did you copy into a formatted partition with a drive letter? Did you remove the old HD from the computer before the first boot from the new HD?
When do you see the message about Win7 not being genuine? Is it on a dull grey blue screen about a minute after logging in?
I am pasting your reply and annotating:

I did 2 backups, one was the full drive and the other was filoes Did you copy into a formatted partition with a drive letter?Yes, it is on drive "D" Did you remove the old HD from the computer before the first boot from the new HD?It is the same drive, I am trying to put it back to a good working drive.

My mistake. You restored an image.
How many partitions are on your HD? Roughly what size?
Where was your backup image (of full drive) stored?
Did you restore the image to the Win7 partition or to another partition?
What is the D: drive?
Is the HD in the same computer or a different one?
Why did you need to restore the image to the same HD?
Sorry for all the questions but I need to understand what has occurred.
Please upload your jpegs to..
Sorry for the wrong description. The images are here: http://s1181.photobucket.com/albums/x433/lghaber/
How many partitions are on your HD? Roughly what size? I think 2 C and D
Where was your backup image (of full drive) stored? D
Did you restore the image to the Win7 partition or to another partition? I restored it to C
What is the D: drive? See Above
Is the HD in the same computer or a different one?Same computer
Why did you need to restore the image to the same HD? I was only trying to fix the operating system but want to keep all my programs, files, settings, etc.
Sorry for all the questions but I need to understand what has occurred.
Many thanks for the info and jpegs. This can happen after a restore but I don't understand why it happens. Choose Resolve Online. Your Win7 is genuine so it won't take long before it is fixed.
You don't understand. I started getting this message prior to my doing anything. I bought Ghost in an attempt to fix it. REesolving on line asks me to buy a new copy of Windows for $119! What I thought I would do was to restore the operating system and then bring back all my filkes, programs and settings but with a clean system. This is what I am trying to do.

Ghost does not just restore the OS back to a clean state unless you have an image (Recovery Point) from that time. It will restore to the point of when you captured the image (Recovery Point). So, if Windows has asking for activation at the time you did the backup, it will still be asking for activation after a restore. You would need to reinstall from the Windows 7 DVD or the factory Recovery Partition using the manufacturer's software.
If your Windows is a genuine installation, you should be able to call MS to get it reactivated without paying. They will probably want to know if it is installed on the same PC or not.
Is this an OEM version of Windows that came on a PC? Is it still on the same PC?
Also note that if you captured an image (Recovery Point) using Ghost, all of your files are included. You can use Recovery Point Browser to restore individual files or entire folders much easier than File and Folder Backup.
If you feel it's a mistake and windows in genuine, go here and run the diagnostic test.
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/
If your system passes that test, the WGA will be reset on your system and it will no longer say not genuine after a reboot.
If it fails that test click here to download the detailed diagnostic tool.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012
After the tool runs click "copy" then paste the results here or save it to notepad and add it as an attachment.
Dave
I have tried it dozens of times to no avail. The best I can get is a suggestion to reinstall using my restore discs but then i have to reinstall EVERYTHING! which is why i am looking for a different solution, i.e. Restore operating system and thhen the rest of my drive less the oild os.
See annotations below

Is there a way to backup everything but the OS?
The first test only tested IE Explorer. Here is the diagnostic report

The first test doesn't just test IE, it uses IE and active X to test your system.
The second test is just more detailed and gives you an output to see what failed.
The main problem seems to be this:
Tampered Service: sppsvc
sppsvc.exe is the Microsoft Software Protection service, a main part of WGA.
The file not necessarily has been tampered, but the system thinks something is wrong with it or it is not present or running.
Run services.msc and look for "software protection", make sure the service is on and set to auto.
If it is not running, set it to auto, reboot, and do the IE test again.
If it will not start, post the error.
There is another oddity I need to check on my windows 7 system.
But I can see you should have a legit version, it's an OEM pre-installed system and the BIOS string, SLIP table, and royalty key appear to be fine.
Dave
How do I Run services.msc? Never mind, i figured it out, see below.
Hi, it will not start, here is tghe error message
Hi Dave. I posted the error message - do you have a solution? Also, did you figure out the other oddity you referred to? Thank you for all your help.
Sorry not to get back sooner, I been very busy at work.
The oddity I mentioned was because all the signed system files said "Signed by = N/A"
But I get the same thing on my windows 7 system so that must be normal.
I have no idea why that service will not start, it would have to be a bed registry entry or a corrupted file.
I can't imagine it being a conflict with another program or the problem would be wodespread.
The only thing I can suggest at this point is making an image as a backup and then running system file checker.
You would open a command prompt as Admin and run: sfc /scannow
After it completes you would need to reboot twice, once to replace any bad files and the second time to let WGA load properly.
Since it's a preinstalled system, your relying on the OEM to have included all the files. If you get prompted to insert your windows disk you won't have one and any recovery disk you may have might not work.
If your unable to run system file checker or if it doesn't take care of your problem I suggest you go here to the windows 7 section and ask for help.
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/genuine
They have Microsoft employees and MVP's willing to help that know more about the common activation problems than me.
Don't worry about posting there, I can tell your system is genuine.
Dave
For what it's worth, I just noticed that service is dependant upon RPC (remote procedure call)
The service "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" must be also set to auto and be running.
The actual file should be in the windows/system32 folder
I would be reluctant to try to confirm the registry entries, I see WGA loading a whole lot of things in the same key.
