Norton Ghost Unable to retrieve information from the agent: Access Denied

In Windows XP,  in the system tray, there is a line through the Norton Ghost 14 icon.  If you hover over the icon, you get the following error message:

 

Norton Ghost

Unable to retrieve information from the agent: Access Denied

 

Any ideas on how to resolve this (preferably without the usual uninstall and re-install).  This has occurred multiple times.
