My computer crashed last weekend. Couldn't find backup DVD. Had to reinstall everything. Once I have everything reinstalled and working fine (including sound), the last program I reinstalled was Norton Ghost. After Norton Ghost was installed, it told me to reboot the computer, which I did. When the computer finished rebooting and came back up to window's desktop there was no sound and the speaker icon in the tastbar was missing also. I have went into Control Panel and tried to turn the sound back on, no luck. I can uninstall Norton Ghost and reboot the computer and the sound comes back on. I can reinstall Norton Ghost and reboot the computer and I lose all sound again. I have worked on this all week, I give up. Can anyone help?
There is a specific Forum for Norton GHOST so I'll ask for your message to be moved over there or better exposure. You won't lose sight of it because a link will be left here.

Hi Pilotbill,
I have used Ghost 12 since it was released and swear by it, but have never had that problem with sound interaction.
We just need a bit more info, what O/S are you using and have you got onboard sound or a pci sound card?
Can you also list the steps you have taken to try and get your sound on again.
Just give us as much info on your setup as you can and I am sure we can sort it out.
At the moment I have Ghost 12 installed on Win 7 but it will also work on XP and Vista, the settings in control panel for sound adjustments differ slightly on each O/S.
You asked me some questions about my computer. My O/S is Windows XP Home, 1.5 GHz Processor, 512 MB Ram, 256 MB AGP 3D Video Card, Onboard Sound Card. I tried to turn my sound back on by going into Control Panel, clicking on the sound and Audio Devices Icon. Did not have any luck.

Hi Pilotbill,
The first thing you need to do is run live update on Ghost 12, I have posted two pics of the sound device tabs, tick the box for the icon
"sound 1" and make sure you have the default device set correctly "sound 2". Try that for starters.
In addition you will need to click advanced on the Volume tab see pic "sound 3" and make sure none of the devices are muted.
You say that you have onboard sound so you will need to open the UI of the sound software and re configure it to enable the sound again.
If you still can't get the sound on, then uninstall ghost again and make a note of all the settings on the tabs shown in pics 1,2 and 3 plus the settings in the onboard sound software accessed from the task bar.
Finally if that still fails you may want to consider fitting a cheap sound card in an available pci slot, install the software and try it, that is of course the final straw.
Maybe another member on the forum may have experienced this problem in the past and may be able to help you, other than that I am stumped, sorry.
I did install Ghost 12 on my XP machine and the sound is fine but I have a sound card fitted in a pci slot.
