Following an issue with Norton 360 Norton tech removed all Norton products to reinstall and also removed my Norton Ghost (without telling me this would happen). Norton 360 issue not resolved but I am now without Norton Ghost and therefore have no means of backing up my PC. I am runnign Norton Ghost v12 with Windows XP SP3.
I am concerend that if I reinstall Norton Ghost that I will not have access to my previous Ghost backups or settings.
I do not want to spend even more time on Norton support trying to resolve this issue.
Thanks - I suspect I am failing to understand the fucntionality of Ghost.
For mroe detail, I have a number of backup files named Driver_Ci0001 (or something similar) I was not sure if after reisntalling Ghost that this install woudl recognise these as backups for this particalur PC - I understand that the files are still there but I was not sure if Ghost tagged these in some way relating to the installation or version of the software? So when I reinstall that these files owuld not be seen as a backup of this drive?
Anyhow, I have decided to bite the bullet and reinstall Ghost and see it I can access the previosu recovery files I found a link to restoring previous settings for Norton v15 so I am going to try to do this so and get my setting points by accessing these from the most recent backup image (which I did as a precaution before contacting Norton chat help). I will let you knwo how I get on.
OK - I seem to have resolved the Norton Ghost issue thanks to antoehr post for v15 which was as follows.
If we are talking Recovery Points, You probably do not want to do that. Just define a new backup and don't worry about the history. You don't need it to recover your PC.
If you really want to try to import your history and have a valid Recovery Point...
Start > Run > Type "services.msc".
Stop the Norton Ghost service.
Open the last valid Recovery Point and find the folder C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Norton Ghost\History - restore everything.
If you want your backup job, restore the folder C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Norton Ghost\Schedule.
Now either restart the Norton Ghost service or reboot the PC
For my install of Ghostt replace the C;Program Data with location
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec - I restored the files as required and all now seems OK. I thinkNortogn Ghost is a good and reliable program. I hope this helps somebody else.
