Not two months ago my Norton Internet Security expired; though it happened pretty much three months before it said it would. I bought a new one anyways a week later and immediately installed it.
Today I woke up to find that my computer was acting the same way it was when Norton expired two months ago - after clicking on the Norton icon, it informed me that 'this product has expired'. Already. :/ I have the CD for it right beside me - it clearly says 1 year protection. This has obviously been less than a year.
And this pretty much happened last time as well, except Norton quit on me much more quickly this time.
Does anyone have any idea why it keeps doing this? I can't keep spending 40-50$ every two months because it keeps expiring early. 8I
The time and date on my computer is correct.
I went onto CHAT and clicked on a link that brought me to the product page, with information on the current Norton system in my computer; according to it, the expiration date is April 7, 2012.
I clicked on the link beside it (the one to download an update) to see if a update would work, thinking that perhaps the problem was that Norton didn't install properly.
The download was going fine until it informed me that there is no Norton system to update; with that, I should probably say that I can't get into Norton at all.
This could be because I'm in safe mode, though.
With Norton dead, I can't start Windows normally; it will immediately freeze after logging in to any account on the computer, admin or other. Last time though, I was lucky enough to discover my Mom's account had un-frozen, after who knows how long, and managed to install the new Norton. Should I wait for another moment like it before attempting another update?

It is likely a computer time-keeping issue, as huwyngr says. It may be that your PC's CMOS battery is dead or dying and this will cause your computer to lose track of the correct time and date when it is turned off. This in turn causes Norton to lose track of the proper subscription information. As a workaround, when this happens, in the main Norton window click Support > Subscription Status. The Subscription Status Check will verify the information on Norton's servers and will quickly update your local program to the correct subscription standing and Norton will revert back to a working state. But if your system time is incorrect when you first start your computer and the CMOS battery is several years old, it probably needs to be replaced.
If you cannot log into Windows, there are other issues going on. Norton will not cause that sort of thing, working or not.

When I had Cmos battery troubles on this computer, I would not be able to boot up since with the time going to some way off date, it was before Windows had come out also. When it happened, it happened every day when I rebooted my computer. I don't think it would be ok for like 2 or 3 months and then start up again having the same problem if it was caused by the Cmos battery unless you never reboot your computer until like 2 months later. I've had to have the Cmos battery replaced twice so far on this computer and it's about 4 1/2 years old now. Now that I am thinking about it, when my first Cmos battery died is when I first came to this Forum for help and haven't left yet. Now that I have said that, good nite.:)
