Norton Help does not know anything

I had to contact Norton for the third time because I kept getting disconnected trying to resolve an issue I am having using outlook.
I never got an answer to a very simple question I asked.  From I I can figure out, Norton 360 help does not know anything about their programs.  All they can do is tell you to run power eraser.  if there is a simple question , like " I opened outlook today and there are two new folders.  One is a new Junk Mail the other a Norton anti-spam folder.  are these suposed to be there?  I have never had them before???"  I was told norton never adds folders to an email account.

Finally I got a third person that said yes they are norton folders but could not tell me how to use them.  I now have hundreds of blocked email addresses in a folder in outlook but I have no idea how to put them into nortons folder.  I can no longer use the junk icon in the outlook ribbon because it now is all in light gray.  Norton help cannot tell me how to block an address now.  they said it is an outlook issue not theirs.  Norton changed my outlook office 19 this morning.  not microsoft. I have used Norton since 1997 without fail but in the last 3 years their help has gotten so pathetic I am changing to another program.  would never recomend them to anyone again.  the assistance I recieve is so bad I just disconected the lasty chat and it is the last norton chat forever on my part.  NORTON SUCKS is the nicest thing I can say about them today

Hello again. If you'd be so kind please post a screenshot of what you are seeing within Outlook. Please redact any identifiable personal info in the screenshot before posting. This will allow us to see what you are seeing in real time. Here is how to post screenshots. Also what OS are you using on this computer, and its build / version. I would think Windows 10 but do not want to assume so.

What was the previous version of Outlook PRIOR to upgrading? Do you have the anti-spam add-in enabled within Norton settings?

ALSO!!

Which one of these scenarios fits your upgrade path? Did you receive any updates to your Office product since the upgrade?

Have you looked at this Microsoft article for help?

Have you attempted to backup your email data, remove your Outlook / Office install, reboot, then reinstall?

Have you considered "removal only", rebooting and reinstall of your Norton product? See next paragraph.

Run the Removal Tool, make sure you are logged into an account on your computer that has admin privileges. Perform a remove only scenario as instructed in this article using the portion labeled " I need help removing Norton". Reboot, THEN reinstall your product by logging into your Norton account, download from there. Once the install is completed, close your browser. Manually run live update and get any patches available. Get them one at a time and REBOOT when each are installed whether instructed to or not. Finish getting any remaining updates, reboot yet again. Recheck for your issue and please let us know your results for follow-up!!

Helping us will help you, thanks for your patience.

Cheers

No I upgraded to Office19 It comes with outlook 2019 and that is also upgraded with the rest of the program.

I have been using Norton since 1997 and different outlooks since it first came out.

I just upgraded to office 19 which included the new outlook.  I used it for several days.  All at once today I could not open outlook.  Everything else ran just fine.

I closed everything, shut off the computer and restarted it.   Outlook opened but with a second junkmail folder and the Norton AntiSpam folder.   I also now have a new data file called archive.

Years ago I used to be able to scan an email I suspected but I have not been able to do this for quite some time.   I now just assume Norton scans every email as it comes in.

I am probably wrong but feel better thinking I am safe that way.

The first tech I chatted with today said I had to run power eraser before I could get help.  The person said I would be reconnected as soon as I come back on line after the program runs.

I do not think the second person I spoke with understood any of the issue and I finally told him (her)  I have no virus Nothing showed up in any scans and that is not my problem.

They wanted to take over my computer and to fix it???  I did accidentally disconnect that time but thought it must have been, meant to be, because I am pretty sure he didn’t know what my issue was any way.

At any rate I connected again.

The third person told me that Norton does not ad any folders to anything in any emails programs and I should run antivirus.   I stopped her/him and said stop and just answer this question.  Forget everything else.  When I ad Norton to my computers email does Norton make a file called Norton AntiSpam folder?  She said yes.  I asked if it ads the other and she said yes.  Long after she said Norton does not do that.

This 3rd person when asked how to get the emails in my blocked spam folder to my new Norton folder/ I was told they don’t know how to do that they are not trained on others programs.

There were so many issue in all three chats that I just disconnected and posted  my angry  information in the community board.

I still have a “tab” in the top of the outlook ribbon(?) that says junk.  I used to be able to open it and click block sender and it would ad that address to a spam file that lists all the emails blocked.  Now that option is not available and I do not know how to block a spammers email so they don’t send through another spam.  I can go into options and see the list of blocked addresses but do not know if Norton now blocks them or how to block them.  I look at the Norton antispam folder and there are no addresses and both of the junk email folders are empty.

My anger comes with Nortons lack of help.  How can one person say that Norton does not add folders to emails then say that the three folders I asked about are nortons added to my outlook?

How is it that it is always another programs issue and Norton never tells them how to use the program Norton wrote?  I would think that if I wrote a program to change the way another program works then they should be able to explain or help a customer.

The only thing I got from the last person i chatted with, was an offer to remove Norton.  I just turned her/him off and gave up.

FWIW!! Knowing a little about "what" version of Outlook you are using would be mutually helpful. The current Outlook compatibility list can be viewed here.

Please note that in the article is this statement:

Norton AntiSpam supported protocols and ports

    • Only POP3 and SMTP protocol is supported.

    • POP3 with SSL is not supported.

    • IMAP & Exchange accounts are not supported.

    • If email client is configured in ports other than default ports 110, then the new port needs to be added to protected ports.

When you also said:

Norton changed my outlook office 19 this morning.  not microsoft.

Unless you have a supported email account anti-spam will monitor, Norton will NOT create an Norton Spam folder in Outlook. I use Outlook personally and can validate that.  There should be a SPAM folder and Junk Email folder in Outlook by default. You SHOULD be able to simply drag and drop the folders you are referring to into the folder you wish them to be in.

Is your situation as in this article? If so that is a Microsoft issue and they are astutely aware of it. Please advise.
