When I do a Live Update, sometimes it says there is a patch, and if I don't apply it now, it will be applied later - does that mean like 30 minutes later? Or a few days later? It never asked that before.
Does it ask this very often? It annoyingly redraws the desktop and system tray icons when I do apply it.
It's happened twice out of the three days since I upgraded it.
If applications are written correctly it should not happen.
Norton uses the native Windows Restart Manager in order to apply the patch.
I do also have this problem, with a couple of Sony applications and it's instantly resolved as soon as you restart the pc.
You can track which applications aren't loading after a new session of the Restart Manager and either check for an updated version, or ask the support team of the affected software to check this problem and write an updated version of the app but there are very minor chances that this will happen.
it is best to use the "Apply now" option and do not restart manually as other users have reported in the past that if you directly reboot without clicking the appropriate button on NIS, then when you run a new LU session after reboot the same patch comes back in some rare occasions.

21.1.0.18 patch has been released recently. Choosing 'Apply Now' applies the patch immediately and If you choose 'Apply later', patch will be applied when you reboot your PC. This is normal only.
robertjc, a patch has just been issued to make the Norton Toolbar compatible with Firefox 25. Always update Norton until no more updates are to be found, apply the patch, and then if you use and wish to update Firefox, then the patch will be in place. Your icons are redrawn, because Norton temoprarily disables things while the patch is being applied. Hope that explains things.
