I received an email from Norton Identity Protection (identityprotection.norton.com) with an alert that "Norton™ Identity Protection has found a match to your monitored information." Is this a legitimate email? Other than clicking a link in the email to find out what the email is referring to, I have no idea where to find out more about this supposed alert. There is a LifeLock link in my Norton account but the link won't allow me to sign in with my Norton account and as far as I know, I don't have a LifeLock account.
If this is a legitimate email from Norton, why would a security company ask me to click a link in an email, especially when I have never heard of Norton Identity Protection and there is no other way to access what the email is referring to.
I have been on hold for over half hour and the chat is not working. where can I get some customer service. I'm getting compromised email alerts. do I change my actual email password, or the ones for the sites they identified as where it was compromised?

I hear ya. I agree with you. I follow Norton and I have no idea whats what with Identity Protection. I think Identity Protection was offered previous to Norton LifeLock.
I've no experience with Norton Identity Protection beyond reviewing Norton documentation.

Norton changes too much. Norton is consistently inconsistent.
Bean counters re-inventing the wheel, gets old.
I ended up clicking on the portal link in the email and calling the phone number in the email. I didn't ask about where to find the portal link independently. I think the email probably was legitimate based on the info you provided from the Norton website. However that info did have a few qualifying statements in it so it made me nervous to rely on a link from an email. I have never received an alert from Norton Identity Protection until late last month. And since I obviously didn't check it regularly or even at all, I was extremely confused about how to find a portal link that I could trust. In my opinion, all tech companies assume the customer fully understands their products. However, the products and technology change so often that it is impossible for the customer to stay up to speed, especially when there are so many companies with so many products that all customers use. And most customers are spending all their time on their primary activities, and they use these products only as tools to help them in their endeavors.

To receive alerts, you must provide your primary email address when you enroll in Norton Identity Protection. You will also receive notifications within the Norton Identity Protection portal.
I learned that Norton Identity Protection is different from Lifelock even though they are owned by the same company. I still don’t understand why I could only access NIP through a link in the email and not through my Norton account. Or at least, I couldn’t figure out how to access it through my Norton account. Makes me uneasy and still a very small part of me worries I fell for a scam.
