The Problem:
Recently, for some unknown reason, Norton IS running in IE 7.0 stopped displaying my Log-in selection list in the dropdown menu under "Cards & Log-ins" in the Norton Toolbar in IE 7.0. All of my Log-ins appeared normally in the "Manage Log-ins" section accessible through the NORTON toolbar button and through the Identity Safe Settings screen. The Auto-Fill feature for all of the Log-ins also would not work.
A test of adding new Log-ins showed that they would be added to the Cards & Log-ins dropdown menu but the previous logins still would not appear on that dropdown with the new additions. Not happy about having to revisit all the websites and relogin to have the data restored to the drop down, I continued to search for a solution.
A "Save and Restore" of the Managed Log-ins did not solve the problem and using the "Use Section Defaults" link also did not help. I connected to Norton's Help Chat Center and turned over control to a Norton Technician who remotely examined all my settings for nearly 30 - 45 minutes. It's an "unnerving" process to see a stranger controlling your computer and examining data related to a sensitive password section of your computer. His conclusion was: "remove the duplicate log-ins showing in the Managed Log-ins section and the problem will be resolved." I told him I didn't think that would solve the problem, he said "it will", I did what he said - the problem didn't resolve.
After flipping every software switch in the program, removing folders to try and restore the menu back to a state where it worked, I finally decided to "risk everything" and reset the program completely to it's "new install" state. Here's what I did and here's what ultimately restored everything:
1) I used the Identity Safe back up feature one more time to make the most current back up of all my logins.
2) I logged out of the program and used the "incorrect password login" technique to force the program to reset everything. When you enter an incorrect password 2 or 3 times, ID Safe will tell you that it's going to reset itself and restore itself to a "fresh install" state.
3) Once the program went into reset mode, it told me that it had found a previous profile. It also asked me for my previous password. This time I entered the correct password. The program loaded and when I checked my "Cards & Log-in" dropdown menu, ALL of my log-ins had been restored and the autofill feature was again working.
Now, had the program not restored my previous profile, I was prepared to use the Restore function within ID Safe to load all my log-ins back into the menu, hoping of course that it would fix the problem but it apparently wasn't necessary since the program reset itself with my existing profile (or perhaps it just located the backup copy I had made and used that by default) but in either case it's all up and running now.
This took me close to 8 hours over a 2 day period to resolve and I hope posting the solution is helpful to someone here.
Thank you.
