I have been looking at the way Norton Insight works on various discussion sites. It seems that it only works during idle time but that this causes problems (conflicts with scheduled scans; somebody turning a TV on stops the scan etc). I tried Norton Insight and set my computer to do a Standard Trust level scan and put the idle time to 10 minutes and enabled idle time scans. I then clicked Norton Insight and it went through a process which said about 18% of my files were trusted. In due course it did a scan (aided by me leaving the computer idle for long periods) but I found it did a FULL scan as the number of files scanned was (within a hundred or two) the same as the Full Scan I had previously done - and I am scanning something like 411,000 files on a FULL scan. So, it didn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?
Actually, I like to be in control of a scan so that the whole job is done at ONE time each two weeks when I have time for it. I wonder why Norton Insight can't be programmed to work as a dedicated scan at a time of my choosing rather than in 'idle time' i.e. why can't I have another scanning option to 'Quick Scan' and 'Full Scan'. Does anybody know why the Norton Insight Scan has to work in idle time - is there some technical reason for it?

(1) Unfortunately, the Norton Insight scan did a Full Scan and I don't understand why it did that and not a shorter Norton Insight scan (even thouigh it said I had a lot of trusted files).I must have been doing something wrong and I am wondering what it was that I did.
(2) It also took ages to do the scan. I left the computer on (unattended) for hours at a time over several days until the scan was completed yet the history said it took less than 4 hours. Other discussion threads seem to indicate a problem in this area i.e. the idle scan not functioning too well. Leaving the computer on is a waste of energy in this 'green' age. I don't need to do a scan while I am doing other work. So I am wondering why Norton cannot provide for users (as an extra option) to do a total 'Norton Insight' scan at one go when doing nothing. This way the user can be in charge and the user can see progress while the shortened Norton Insight scan is taking place. I just wondered if there was some really technical reason why this facility cannot be provided.
I've wondered about the same thing. NIS gives you a choice of scheduling EITHER an "Idle Time Scan" (weekly, monthly, quarterly) OR a "Full System Scan", but both can't be scheduled concurrently. "We can send a man to the moon, but ..."
You indicated: "Actually, I like to be in control of a scan so that the whole job is done at ONE time each two weeks when I have time for it."
Wouldn't a scheduled "Full System Scan" meet your needs? By being able to pick the day and time, a scheduled Full System scan gives you the control you're after. If the Full scan took longer to run than an Insight scan, it wouldn't really matter if you pick a convenient time.
Yes, I agree with you. I have reverted to Full Scans for the time being because I do not know why Norton Insight did a Full Scan and took such a long time doing it when I thought it would do a shortened scan and do it quite quickly. My Full Scan can take 4+ hours and I am assuming (maybe incorrectly) that, if I could get Norton Insight to work properly for me, it would take a lot less time to do a scan. That is why I am wondering what I am doing wrong because I would like to give Norton Insight a fair trial and see just how good Norton Insight is.
Even if I understand what I am doing wrong I would feel more in control if I could run a Norton Insight scan in dedicated time and see progress. I just feel this would work better for me and I should get quicker scans than in idle time.

We have corrected this issue. Please run LiveUpdate until no more updates are available. Let us know if the issue recurs. Thank you for posting on the community.
Removed Norton from both computers & installed from scratch & both now on 22.24.2.6. Both now have Smart Scan absent, messages missing. Norton insight working. Only difference is on Windows 11 desktop where Report Card is missing although turned 'On' in settings, 8.1 laptop icon present. Can access though thru' search. In effect, the second total remove & install on desk top is different from first which still had Smart Scan available. Had issues before with install, remove & reinstall where there were different variations of the same version number. Completely confused. See what happens when update to 22.24.3.2. Took exactly same route on both.
Tried old laptop this morning - still on old 22.24.2.6. Had issue with Norton Insight on that, was OK couple of days ago, no apps been updated since a few days prior to that as was the case with Dell desktop after updating to 3.2 although this seems OK at the moment running on 2.6. installed yesterday. Not updated yet to 3.2. Cant work out what has affected either.
