Norton Install Blue screen crashed Windows Vista

Upon getting a new Dell laptop, I installed Norton from my Xfinity account.  That is the ONLY action ever taken on the computer.  After restarting, the OS is corrupt and won't start, not in SafeMode or any other mode.  Been on the phone for hours with Xfinity, Norton and Dell and they are all blaming each other.  But, Dell found the corrupt file and it is in fact Norton.  Now, Norton won't replace my OS and new disks are $200 +.  There are hundreds of thousands of posts on the Internet of people with problems just like mine and Norton doesn't fix this?  I've even found reputable journal articles discussing the same issue and I was treated like I crashed my own computer.  I'm appalled at the customer service and my useless new computer.
