I just installed NOrton 360 from a download onto a new Windows 8 laptop.  Everytime i restart the laptop, the norton installation manage screen starts up.  How can I stop this from happening?

Yes it came with McAffee.  I purchased the Norton 360 from Staples.com.  When the Norton 360 was installing it said it had to uninstall McAffee which it did.......a McAffee uninstall window opened up and said it was uninstalling.  Thanks

Here's the link to the web page on how to use the special tool McAfee has to run after uninstalling the usual way in order to clean up what gets left behind:

You will have to scroll down to get the link to the file itself which is called MCPR.exe.

 

The instructions are very complete and there's even a video but pay attention to this instruction which will apply in Windows 8 also since it runs the file with elevated privileges that enable it to deal deep in the system .

NOTE: Windows 7 and Windows [Vista] users, right-click MCPR.exe, and select Run as Administrator. [Note Windows 8 also]

 

Then reboot your computer

 

What was left over by McAfee was probably stopping the Norton Installation Manager from running to install Norton 360.

 

Let us know whether N360 now installs OK but if not tell us whether it is the Standard or the Premier or Gold version and we can point you to a file to download which you can install again using Run as Administrator, which the Installation Manager does not get to let you do.

Could you tell us what you did -- was it enough just to run the McAfee cleanup tool or did you have to reinstall Norton? If you had to reinstall Norton how did you go about doing that?
