Norton int security 2010 toolbar-cards and logins not showing cards available

Hi- I frequently use the "cards & logins" feature. I had had only one credit card registered in there. But frustratingly, when I'd be on a site where I needed the credit card filled in, it wouldn't come up automatically, and when I'd click in the cards and logins dropdown tab, I didn't find anywhere I could click to manually select the card to get it to fill in.Instead, I'd get the auto request to fill in the credit card number on web pages where I didn't need the credit card number, and where there wasn't even any place on the page requesting a credit card number! It's like it was performing the opposite of what it was supposed to do!

I looked at the tutorials, and found that, if there is more than one card registered, then you'll get, from the cards & logins dropdown, an option to manually fill in, which goes to the two cards you have listed.

But that only works intermittently.  Forexample, just now, I clicked on the cards and logins dropdown menu, and I'm logged in, but I do not see the option to choose a card. And I can't find any other way to get to those cards to use them. Why does it show up only sometimes, and why does it show up at inappropriate times (when there are no forms to fill in on the page)?

How do I change the settings (I already have "let me view my cards with each login" setting) so that I can access manually the cards to fill in on the page of my choosing? Is this just a bug?

Thanks-Jean

Hi! I have version 17.7.0.12, and am running win xp, service pack 3.

As I am on this page, logged into identity safe, when I click on the cards & logins tab, the only things that I can choose from are: "log out of profile Jean", "manage" (cards or logins), and "do not autofill this page", other than of course, all the sites that have been registered, listed below.

There have been only one or two occasions that I saw the option to use one of the cards I registered; I can't figure out why it sometimes comes up and sometimes doesn't.

thanks for your help.

Jean

Sorry Tim- I forgot to address your last question.

An example of a site where identity safe would offer to fill in credit card numbers where inappropriate would be utube- I click on a link to take me to a video on the site, and when I arrive, the message comes up showing me the credit cards I can use on that page. It's strange to me, cuz there isn't any place on that page where a credit card can be filled in.

but when I'm on a page on a given site, for example a site where identity safe logged me in in the first place, when I reach the page where I need to fill in credit card info, I get no invitation to use my registered cards, and when I click on the dropdown menu, I don't see any option to go to the cards to use them--only the options to choose not to autofill the page, or log out, or manage my cards and logins.

Jean

Hello Jean,

Can you give me exact direct links? A link to the specific youtube.com page and also to the checkout/store page where you would like this to work but it doesn't.

Thanks!

tim- I tried to get it to let me choose a credit card to fill in on this page that I have pasted here, but there was no option allowed for me to get to the cards-just log out, manage, or do not autofill this page (I have it set to let me manually select the cards to fill):

I am currently trying to locate a web page on which I get the inappropriate invitation to use the cards...

Jean

Hi seasideroses,

Unfortunately, I don't have Verizon so I can't see the screen where you pay. Can you attach a screenshot of the page? This would help greatly!

Forum Tip - How to post screenshots in the forum

Hi seasideroses,

I would like to clarify some of the features of the Identity Safe Card alert and Card details autofill.

I looked at the tutorials, and found that, if there is more than one card registered, then you'll get, from the cards & logins dropdown, an option to manually fill in, which goes to the two cards you have listed.

Even if you have only one card saved in your Identity Safe account, you will get the Card alert when you visit a registration page.

The option to manually choose a card for autofill will appear in the toolbar only when you are in a registration page.(A page which has some form fields to fill). eg., The Card alert and the manual fill option under IdentitySafe -->Identity Cards in the toolbar will not appear for gmail.com login page. But it will appear if you click 'Create a new account' from the gmail.com login page. So this behavior(The Card Manual Fill option appearing only in certain pages) is not a bug.

However if Identity Safe has recognized a page to be autofilled(You will see 'Do not Autofill this page' option under Identity Safe in the toolbar), and if the page has some form fields like First name, Last name, Phone number, Credit card number etc.. in it, and even then you do not see the card alert or the option to manually fill in the card details for that page, then it is a bug. If you have any sites which has this problem, please let us know the link, so that we could investigate on it.

Or if for example, if Identity safe fills the login credentials for a particular site, and you are logged in to that site. When you visit a registration page within the same domain, you will get the Card alert and the option to manul fill the card details. If you did not get the card alert  or the manual fill option, then it is a bug.

Also please check if you have added the sites to 'Auto Fill Exclusions' list.

Thanks,

Umai

Thanks, Umai, for the valueable info you just gave. I had been trying to find sites where the "card alert" comes up inappropriately, but, as you might expect, so far it hasn't occurred, so that I could have sent you the address for the site.

But I did send the url for a site on which I had logged in, both to identity safe and the site itself, and at the payment page, where there is clearly a place to fill in my visa card info, nothing comes up, whether the settings are to automatically show me the cards available, or for me to manually select the cards, but  the dropdown menu does not  take me to my cards; only occasionally, and I have not put any sites into the exclusion list.

I believe that it must be a bug, as you suggested. What can be done in that case? Is there a "bug fix" download?

Thanks, Jean

Hi seasideroses,

The issue has been identified. The issue is, the card alert(also the manual card fill details in the toolbar) appears and disappears immediately in the verizonwireless.com site. This may appear as, card fill option appearing only occasionally, as you have mentioned. This may be due to some background scripts running in the page causing the card fill option to disappear. A defect has been raised for this issue.

Thanks,

Umai

thanks, Umai, for the info. It makes sense that a script would foul things up.

How do I check to see if a script is running on a particular page?

How do I disable it if it's running? Is there a setting in firefox to disable scripts?

thanks-Jean

Hi seasideroses,

Even though disabling Java script in the browser solves the card auto fill problem for this site, disabling Javascript is not recommended. Because, some web sites require java scripts to be enabled for them to function correctly.

If you still want it to be disabled, you can disable Javascript temporarily when you visit this page alone, fill the card details and then re-enable it . More information about using java scripts in Firefox can be found in the following links.

thanks, Umai. I was just googling someone and came up with a result on peoplesearch. I currently have the setting on cards and logins to automatically show me my cards. well, on this site, the card invitation came up, on the page noted below. there isn't any place to fill in card info on that page, and I'm a little suspicious about why the card invite comes up on pages like this. is there a way that they could surreptitiously take that card number?

I'm still waiting for the opposite to occur, namely a site where I want my card to fill, but it doesn't show up, nor can I manually select it.

Jean

Hello Jean,

That site has a web form on the top (name, address, city, etc), so its likely that this is as designed.

It will fill in your information where appropriate if you select it to, but it will not put your credit card information in there since there isn't a credit card field.
