Hey guys,
A few comments from my side on NIS09.
First of all, after the installation on 27/11 of NIS09 on my PC, I finally today had a Norton Insight Scan and a Norton Submission run, during Idle Mode Scanning.
Although the last days I had left my PC running numerous times without using it (for example, during the night), thinking that it's Idle (since I had Idle Quick Scans successfully run during these times), I waited for a Norton Insight Scan and a Norton Submission run, but nothing happened.
I therefore start thinking that there was something wrong with NIS 09, or a combination of settings in NIS09 that would not allow me to run Norton Insight Scan and Norton Submission.
Today, I realized that there was nothing wrong with NIS09 nor its settings. After delaying logging for about 14min, when I eventually did, I noticed (from the CPU Usage Screen) that NIS09 had started a Norton Insight Scan (did not manage to complete, due to my logging--disrupted the Idle state of my PC), but still no Norton Submission run. I assumed that since these two were interactively related, because the Norton Insight Scan was not completed, I also didn't get a Norton Submission run.
I immediately, since I wanted to see what is happening, pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del, and locked my PC (but left it running), and waited for about 30-35 minutes without using it. When I logged again, I saw that both Norton Insight Scan and Norton Submission, had been completed, and successfully run.
What I had failed to realize all these days was that, just leaving my PC running without using it, was not the "Idle State", that would enable the Norton Insight Scan and a Norton Submission run. Although Idle Quick Scans would run, obviously something was disturbing Norton Insight.
I wanted to share this with everybody, since many of us have been asking about Norton Insight and some confusion was evident, blaming at the same time NIS09 and Symantec. Well, it's nice from time to time to mention the positive things, and not only the negatives.
Further, since this is a long read for anyone who has the patience to read it, I would also like to clarify that there is the possibility with NIS09 of having Scheduled Full System Scans and Idle Scans enabled. As long as they do not run concurrently, there is no problem in having Scheduled FS Scans and Idle Scans Enabled, i.e.., Idle Scans set to "Weekly/Monthly..etc, form the main window settings. Check this also Re: NIS 09 Scheduled Full System Scan.
Thanks
TrDo.
