Hi
I have had Norton internet security 2010 which may have been upgraded to 2011 sometime last year (can't remember) anyhow this has been running faultlesly on my compaq presario 2ghz amd sempron 3000 which had win xp sp3 on it and also on my cube running vista sp2 amd sempron 2.8ghz.
Last week both pc's had a norton notification to upgrade, so i did, the cube appeared to upgrade fine and run ok, but at least 4 times out of 6 when shutting down it would get to the shutting down screen and stay there until i press the reset button on the cube and allow it to restart, then shut down again and it would go off normally. Also when browsing with ie 9 and using the back arrow (top of screen) it would regularly report 'an unknown problem has caused ie to recover this webpage'. not a major issue, but annoying and it only started doing it after the 2012 upgrade.
The compaq had serious issues from the start, after installation it would report a fault with ccSvcHst illegal instruction error, whereby nis would close and internet connection would be lost until reboot, following advice from another thread I re formatted both hdd's, installed xp, upgraded to vista, installed sp1 and 2, then got all updates, reinstalled nis 2012, got updates for that and then it says 'symatec framework has stopped working and has been closed, back to the same thing of no nis and no internet.
Again following advice from the other thread I have cleaned it out completely (dust), replaced psu, replaced a memory card which showed a fault after cleaning, re applied heat sink compound to the cpu, and fitted an extra fan. General feeling in the other thread was it was a fault within the compaq, rather than anything wrong with nis 2012.
From this morning I have uninstalled nis 2012 from that machine and installed nis 2010 which I have on disk with no repeat of the afformentioned faults and instability issues.
Tonight as the cube once again refused to shut down, I have uninstalled nis 2012 from that machine also, incidentally the uninstaller crashed during that procedure with 'symantec framework has stopped working and has been closed' (how familiar), got rid of nis eventually by finding the norton removal tool. Now reinstalled nis 2010 and now this one is back to normal.
Anyhow they are both now working as they should.
It would be nice for someone from symatec to admit there are issues with this release of the program and to stop blaming peoples computers for the faults that are occuring.
After all both of my pc's were working perfectly 8hrs a day, 6 days a week without a hiccup until I installed this upgrade.
And another thing, why have you done away with the ability to download and SAVE a copy of the program from your website, this was a very handy feature, at least if you had 3 pc's to protect you only had to download the file once! now you have to do it 3 times, do you have shares in the isp's ?
come july next year an ex norton user,
paul..
