This is the exact same Issue I have just now and, after have a chat through e-mail with a Customer Service agent, looks like you are stuck with this error for good because, no matter what I tried ot what was suggested to me, the error remains.

Could be just a bad update.

Please take a look at it later today and see what happens

Hi Floating_Red,

Ironically, prior to posting to the forum, I was reading a thread that you had initiated which seemed to be the exact issue I am having...

I guess i have joined the club!

What version of NIS 2008 is everyone using? That sounds like a problem that only the Norton removal tool will fix, since files are probably corrupted and a normal uninstall won’t fix it. If someone could try that, and post back on success/failure it would help everyone else! And use the installion file from the website if possible! (It will be the most up-to-date)

Hi McStick,

When I was on the support chat with Pavan from norton, he took control of my laptop using some remote control tool (which is quite nifty by the way), and he used the norton removal tool to completely uninstall, reboot and reinstall the product. Still the same issue. As far as the specific version, I'm not exactly sure and can't readily check, as I'm out of town and my laptop is at my house. Especially if I had this issue even after a clean install, I don't think it is a corruption issue.

Thanks,

Sheel

My Post - not on this Post, but on a Post I started myself; sheel331 mentions this - on this states that I used the N.R.T. and still had the same Issue; I used it twice-in-a-row and re-install Norton and still the same Issue.  This looks like an Issue that, once you have got, it stays with you.

And yes, I am using the Newest Version.

Good evening,

I am having an issue where in the Norton Protection center of NIS 2008, under the computer section, the Windows Automatic Update is showing to be "at risk". It doesn't allow me to fix it, but if I ignore it, everything looks ok. I know for a fact that Windows automatic update is enabled, and I have reinstalled the NIS 2008 tool with the assistance of a Norton engineer (Pavan via chat, not phone or email), all to no success...Does anyone know what else could cause this issue?

Thanks,

Sheel Shah

What version of Windows?

I'm in XP at the moment but with NIS2008 installed and updated. I get a warning for Windows Update because I have mine set so that it informs me that new downloads are available and asks if I want to download. NIS's preferred setting is for it to be on Fully Automatic so that it downloads and installs without asking me.

So if you don't have it set for Fully Automatic you can expect to get a flag on this. I have set mine to Ignore but every now and again it puts up a warning. I just live with it.

Out of curiosity, in XP if you go into Administrative Tools > Services > Security Center, is it set for automatic or disabled?

Good evening again,

I am running MS Vista home premium. I also have automatic updates set to "no notification, automatically download and install".

It kinda sucks that I have the issue, and it also seems like other folks are having the exact same problem (bug in the software???). In regards to Phil_D's post, I will check but I'm not exactly sure off the top of my head.

thanks,

On my XP computer, I have the Windows Security Center disabled through "Services". That means that if I go to Start > Control Panel and double click on Security Center, the option to “Change the way Security Center alerts me” is grayed out. The Windows Security Center is only a monitoring process – it provides no protection level on its own.

Since Norton is monitoring the Firewall, Antivirus and Windows Updates, why have two programs monitoring the same things?

Just a guess, but possibly if Windows Security Center is running at the same time as Norton Security Center is running, a conflict develops causing the Windows Automatic Update alert message in the Norton Control Center.

It’s worth a shot to check it out; you can always revert back to the previous settings.
