I'm having a problem with NIS 2009 when I try to burn a DVD or CD where the burn fails and I get an error message. This used to always happen with Norton Internet Security 2008 but I could turn off all the features and the disc would then burn without any problems. However, in 2009, it doesn't matter if I turn all the features off, I still get the error message all the time. I had no problem burning until I upgraded. I'd really appreciate some help as not being able to burn discs on my laptop is very annoying.

No luck with the suggestion but thanks nonetheless. I did however have success just now after playing with MSCONFIG. I chose Selective Startup and clearing the tick box for System Services. After a restart, I was able to burn two DVDs without any problems before using MSCONFIG to reinstate the System Services. It's a bit convoluted but I'm happy I have a way to prevent unecessary coasters!
That is the service that lets Windows do CD burning. Go to run and type “services.msc”. Find the “imapi” service. Make sure its running and set to Automatic.
This may b a problem of one software conflicting with other.
Like deamon tools conflicting with burning software, to resolve this permanently there is a way but tedious one.
1. Take a dvd-rw or cd-rw (rw=rewritable)
2. then select normal startup in msconfig and uncheck the programs related to burning or any way related to cd rom or dvd rom.
3. Then start ticking 1 by 1 each service and check whether burning is proper or not.
4. Whn your cd doesn't burn properly it means that service is conflicting, use add/remove to remove it or use ccleaner to remoe it if its struck in registry.
this takes 3 to 4 hrs thats y its tedious but makes your comp better.
