Norton Internet Security 2009 - Definition update problem

Hello.

Firstly I'd like to say sorry if this is a duplicate thread.

I have a 3 licence copy of NIS 2009. I am using two of these. One on my desktop PC, the other on my Laptop.

The desktop is a Dell, running Windows Vista Home Basic,

The laptop is a Toshiba, running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I've had no problems with the desktop and NIS 2009.

However, on the laptop I am NIS is is showing the orange icon saying action is needed. When I click on this I get the orange "Fix Now" button. When I click on this it attempts a live update.

A pop up window appears, then a second pop up.

On the second pop-up: Sometimes it will download the updates, other times it will say they are up to date.

The problem is when I close the second pop up after it has finished its action the message in the first pop-up tells me that it failed to update.

My orange alert changes to a red one days later as it thinks my definitions are out of date. The actual link which shows how old the definitions are sometimes updates and tells me, for example, "10 seconds old..." (then 11, 12 etc..you get the picture). Yet, as I say, it still gives me the orange/red alerts.

The only way I've been able to fix it (and I cannot be doing this every week!! I should not need to) is to remove NIS 2009 and re-install it.

I read somewhere there could be an issue with pc's going into sleep mode and auto-updates running? I am sure I have disabled the auto update though.

Anyone else having this problem?
