Norton Internet Security 2009 - One Click Support not responding

Hi,

I have just installed Norton Internet Security 2009 on my Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 PC and have problems when attempting to run One Click Support. I receive a message saying something to the effect of installing update 1 of 1 (installing Flash 10), then it freezes. No matter what, even after several reboots, One Click Support still freezes

Anyone else experiencing the same issue? If so, any fixes?

Thanks in advance,

Jen

You are not alone -- try a search here on [installing Flash 10] !!

Here's a link to what some have found to be a solution.

If that does not work for you let us know -- let us know if it does too <g>

Thanks for the prompt reply and suggested solution, I will try that tomorrow (I'm on a different machine at the moment).

Do you know if the Norton Techies aware of this issue, and if so is there a fix via LiveUpdate in the works?

Thanks,

Jen

You can take it for granted that Norton Staff read every message here! So I'm sure they are aware of the thread I linked to.

From the message there from Mijcar it would seem that the problem may not be with Norton but with the way Flash 10 is installing itself. But I'll ask around.

Thank you, I look forward to any additional information you can provide.

Thanks,

Jen

I have the same issue with One Click support...I'll try the solution suggested and provide feedback.

As far as FP 10 is concerned, there is a Known issue with IE7....it causes it to crash...No fix available...There are  some possible workarounds...

If anyone is interested...let me know.

TrDo.

Yes it works fine....Excellent...Well done TomiRed..

I would like to know how many hours did it take you to figure out this combination of choices...Disabling "Tamber With", and deleting the folder Norton Support....:smileyvery-happy:

Tremendous combination...That's why I Kudo you!!

P.S. IE7 and FP 10 , nonetheless don't go along very well...thats why IE7 "hangs" from time to time....

Thanks for the feedback – I’d better go do that myself now! <g>

Hi TrDo,

I haven't experienced any issue with IE7 and Flash Player 10.

Could you elaborate a bit more?

Thanks for your time.

Hi Phil_D,

Of course I can..The last few days my IE7, kept "hanging"...not too often, but enough to make me look in the web for this issue...

But before I do that, I had send an error report about this issue to Microsoft.  Today, they send me back the possible solution, and they had identified FP10, as the core of the problem...

Microsoft indicated that this was a well-known issue(really?...I thought...not to me!) and I should contact Adobe....

Well, not only I did contacted Adobe, but also Adobe community and Adobe technical reports about this issue....You cannot believe how many people have this issue...

I have created a folder in my Favorites, with info from community sites/Technical reports/Microsoft forum suggestions/Adobe community suggestions...if you need any let me know...

No fix is available..only workarounds...and these are not guaranteed either...There are suggestions that range from radical....like, modifying a specific registry key, and setting its value to zero....to softer suggestions, like changing some IE7 settings...

TrDo.

P.S. Sorry for the delay...I had written a page of info and I lost it cos I tried to visit a site to give you some specific info..but instead of opening a new tab...I used the current one...So I had to write everything from the beginning..

BTDT Far too often!

The Right Mouse Click / Open in New Tab is hopefully becoming automatic for me, especially for navigating to Private Messages here since otherwise it is hard to get back to where you came from in the Forum.

You might want to try what worked for me:

1.  Uninstall all FlashPlayers using ADD/REMOVE

2.  Close all browsers.

3.  Open IE and go directly to the Adobe FlashPlayer site.

4.  Make sure you have no other browser windows open.

5.  Launch the install.

Hi TrDo,

Thanks for taking the time to explain your issue. I'll look into it some more.

However, mijcar suggested what I was about to recommend.

Please give it a try and let us know.

Your welcome Phil_D.  Well, since these "hangs", are not yet too often happening (considering the ratio=My amount of time in the Internet/No.of times IE7 "hangs")...I'm not going into Un- and Re-installing FP10, at the moment..

Further, at the time the stats are that even if I do...the same thing most probably will happen with FP 10...There are suggestions from Adobe support, that FP9 is a better solution and more reliable for IE7....Although they admit that FP9, crashed also IE7, when 2 windows of IE7 were opened, containing 2 different tabs each...

There is a debugging version of FP10, which helps sending reports to Adobe, for reproducing the crash...Maybe I'll use this one to help them out....

P.S. The Adobe FP10, cannot/should not be removed from Add/Remove, in Windows Vista, thats why Adobe Macro after many discussions and requests from users, developed an FP Remove tool...download-able, from their site...

Hi TrDo,

Thanks for the additional info and the mention of the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller. I checked it out on the Adobe website. This is definitely a departure from past versions.

I had not researched anything on this since I haven't had any issues, but now you've peaked my curiosity and I shall have to delve into it some more.

The only thing I would point out is that Flash Player 10 was released to address some security issues, so until I know more, I wouldn't recommend reverting back to FP 9.  If you have any links suggesting this, I would be most interested to read them.

I appreciate you time in providing this information.

Best Wishes

Hey Phil_D,

Just to follow-up on your request, about any links suggesting FP9 instead of FP10, please find this:

TrDo.

P.S.  Sorry but the exact link to the specific answer creates a small error, I therefore provide the url of the whole page...You should be interested at the second post(Reply No.1).

Interesting how far back that goes and that there was no intervention from Adobe after 10/28 …
