Norton Internet Security 2010 and Malware Detection Software

Good Evening:

 

I currently have Norton Internet Security 2010 (NIS 2010) installed on my computer.  My computer is running perfectly, and I feel secure when visting the Internet.  However, is it a good idea to install additional security software, like, for example, a second layer of malware/spyware detection software?

 

If so, what type of software should I consider?  Will a second layer of security software be compatible with NIS 2010?
