Sorry to post this 3 months after the fact. I was updating Norton today and thought I should share what happened to me. I spent 4 hours on the phone with India (not kidding) trying to figure out why I could not create a valid restore point or load from an earlier restore point. I let them bot my system, remove Norton, reinstall Norton, etc. Finally an advanced supervisor showed up at work and told my tech how to do this:
*Go to Norton Internet Security main page. Set Intrusion Prevention to OFF. Create Restore point.
That is it, that simple! Apparently Norton considers any attempt by an outside source (Windows Update, other software and of course You) as a threat.
PS- They gave me an additional 30 days on my contract for waiting so long. Persistence paid.
