I am running NIS 2010 on my brand new laptop. It came with a NIS 2-month free software.
Then, when this 2-month software expired, I removed this from my laptop and installed NIS 2010.
I then went away for a while and did not use the Internet on my laptop. About a week ago I came back to my laptop and ran Live Update, and I got the error messages as shown in the picture above. I run Live Update manually just about every other day for the past week, and this problem persists.
I am connected to a pre-paid wireless mobile USB broadband modem. It's a very new one. I am based in Australia.
I don't have any issues downloading anything from other websites. Connection to the Internet is okay. No problems here at all.
thanks, ok its becomming clearer. When you removed NIS did you use the Norton Removal Tool?
If not, then you should at least use it now, reboot, use it a 2nd time, reboot, install NIS 2010 and try again.
Sorry it is a pain, but this is the procedure.
Make sure you have taken precautions with regard to knowing your key, mynortonaccount, budump etc.
I am not sure if the free product was 2010 or 2009.
When you reinstall 2010 do so from the link www.norton.com/nis10. Again not sure how you acquired NIS 2010 and what the source was for your installation.
You can ignore by other requests if your modem has no hardware firewall.
When I removed the free NIS I used the Norton Removal Tool. I believe it was the NIS 2009 version, free for 2 months. This is now gone from my laptop and I can't find it anywhere in the harddrive.
My current NIS 2010 was bought in a Norton box (its authentic) from a tech-shop. It is for a 3-user PC. I installed NIS 2010 using the CD that came in the box.
Well if you have used the NRT I am sure you dont want to do it all again. However, some users have found it necessary to apply NRT twice with reboots in between. The choice is clearly yours. If you dont think this will help then I am unable to advise further unless the problem is merely that you do not have a good signal connection when you are attempting the download.
Sorry, I have no other ideas.
P.S. Do check that you can get to AV sites like www.symantec.com in general.

We would love to help you resolve the issue you are experiencing with NIS 2010. Can you please provide me with the following information:
- Were you online while installing NIS? Win7 x86 or x64?
- Base version of NIS installed
- Look in: C:\Users\All Users\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_17.x.x.xxx <--- this number
- Current version of SONAR on the machine
- Look in: C:\users\All Users\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_17.x.x.xxx\Definitions\BASHDefs\2010nnnn.nnn <--- this folder name (there should only be one of these numbered folders.
I was not online when I was installing NIS 2010. I only connected to the Internet when NIS prompted me to do so. I couldn't remember why, but I think it was for registration purposes and downloading the updates.
My laptop is running on Windows 7, 32-bit, 86x.
Base Version of NIS installed:
I did a search in my C Drive -
.....NIS_17.0.0.136
Current version of SONAR installed on machine:
I was looking under ....\Definitions\BASHDefs\...
and the only numbered file is 20090829.001
I can't seem to attach the Log file. It's title Log.Lue, but the attachment bar does not allow me to attach it, and when I try to post with this Log, I get an error message saying that the file does not have a valid extension.
The main issue I see is installing from the disc, which is several versions behind. There is more chance of a corrupted version change when it is handled by an over-the-top installation.
I would again recommend removal and then reinstall the most recent version here.
Unfortunately, most users are not aware of the major version changes. I wasn't either until I discovered the forum. The new version is up to 17.5.0.127.
Try renaming the file by adding a .txt extension at the end of the filename and posting again. If that doesn't work, can you please send me a private message so I can send directions on how to get the logs to me?
Our component teams conduct thorough testing to ensure our new definitions and updates will install successfully in all supported platform through all upgrade paths. This includes the very common situation you describe (directly from the original "box" release to the latest available).
I have just tried to reproduce your issue and was able to apply the update as expected. I will need to look at the logs to see what the issue is.
Looking through the log, I believe I have a quick solution that may resolve this situation for you while we research a more permanent one to ensure this does not affect future users. Please see PM and let me know if it works :)
PM means private message. You can send a private message through the community private messenger. Please read the following section from the community help for more information.
When you receive a private message over the community private messenger, you may want to look out for the yellow envelope icon ( ) in the upper right hand corner of any community page.
Refresh this page and see the top right hand corner. There should be an envelope icon with a (1) next to it. Click on the envelope and you'll be able to read my instructions.
Our LiveUpdate team is currently working on a permanent solution that will prevent this extremely rare issue from happenning. Once we have a patch, you will automatically be updated to it. Cutomer Support will aso write a KB article about this issue.
However, if anyone else is experiencing a similar issue with any of our updates and wants a quickie fix...
Problem:
One of my updates continues to fail to apply even though all the other ones (even new ones!) apply just fine.
Solution:
A partially downloaded file either times out or is not resuming a download. Delete the partial file and try LU again.
