Your newly purchased product will have its own product key. Currrently it is running under the pre-existing subscription which is valid for another 51 days. If you were to enter the new key now, you would lose the 51 days remaining on the old key, because the two keys cannot be combined (you would need to contact Customer Support to have them restore the 51 days for you). So you should do nothing with the new key until a day or two before the old one expires, at which time you should click the "Renew" link at the bottom of the Norton window and enter the new key into the space provided and click the small arrow to submit it.

BAD NEWS: Despite following the advice I still got problems. The new product was updated and the free years subscription was registered BUT when the end of the OLD subscription for a Norton Internet Security product I now no longer had on my computer came round THEY STILL AUTOMATICALLY RENEWED THE YEARS FEE, and this from a card THAT THEY SAID was out of date and were constantly reminding me to update info on. BE WARNED turn your automatic renewal off now!
Final Update (I hope!) I "appear" to be having the money returned to me having been on "chat" to an advisor. It seems that as well as registering the new product as advised above you may well have to go to your account AND UNSUBSCIBE TO AUTOMATIC RENEWAL ON THE OLD PRUDUCT or it will renew itself costing you money even though you do not use it! Hope this helps you people out there in Norton Community.

I'm glad you got it sorted out -- useser feedback indicates that OnLine Chat Support is quick and effective.
Regarding the Automatic Renewal -- what you describe does happen and it's important that when you buy on line from Norton (or any subscription from anywhere) that you look very carefully at the screens and see whether or not any actions, like Automatic Renewal are prechecked. It's easy to forget later to do anything especially if you go out and buy a licit copy cheaply and use the KEY when renewal is due.
It would be nice if uninstalling automatically and without fail updated the central database on Norton servers but it does not always do that .... and I don't see how it would have any way of knowing that you also wanted to cancel an automatic renewal since you might just be reinstalling ....

Der PC ist Eigenbau, ich habe den PC ja formatiert und NIS lässt sich trotzdem nicht Installieren, bicht immer mit dem gleichen Fehler ab!
Hast du alle Treiber installiert? Und noch andere Geräte installiert?

Ich habe folgendes Problem, ich habe mir die NIS 2011 gekauft, war schon immer für Norton Produkte
Bei der Installation, ladet er Viren Definationen runter, prüft und die Installation bricht ab, er schreibt mir dann ich solle Norton Power Earser runterladen, gesagt, getan.
Prüfung mit NPE brachte keine Risiken, komisch.
Pc formatiert und Windows NeuInstalliert, wieder die gleiche Meldung ich soll NPE runterladen und prüfen, hab ich wieder gemacht keine Funde.
Langsam denk ich mir ich wechsel auf ein anderes Produkt!
Was kann da los sein?
aja hijackthis hat auch nix gefunden und OTL auch nicht
Also ich habe alle Treiber installiert von Nvidia, Intel, Realtek und mehr nicht!
hab mir ja dann mal die test version von norton 360v4 runtergeladen und die install bricht auch mit der gleichen meldung ab.
hab malwarebytes runtergeladen und gescannt, der findet auch nichts! langsam komm ich mir *****>
Installation als Admin ausgeführt?
Das ist ziemlich ungewöhnlich das du PE runterladen solltest.

ja habe die install auch als admin ausgeführt, er geht bis 80% dann entpackt er den virenscanner, ladet die definitionen, prüft, dann steht installation wird durchgeführt, geht bis 100 und dann bricht er ab, angeblich wegen einen infizierten computer.
aja habe kaspersky runtergeladen und er findet auch nichts
Das gleiche passiert im Abgesicherten Modus xD
verbinde mit lan-kabel-dsl
halte uns auf den laufenden auch nach deinen Besuch beim Norton Support

did you have NIS2010 on the machine previously?
If yes, please try this:
1. If you use the feature, please backup your Identity Safe data
2. Download latest Norton Internet Security installer: www.norton.com/nis11 (this is the English one, for other languages please go to the Norton Update Center: www.norton.com/nuc )
3. Download Norton Removal Tool: www.norton.com/nrt
4. Disconnect from internet
5. Remove Norton Internet Security from Start Menu or from Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs
6. Reboot
7. Run the Norton Removal Tool, reboot (repeat it 2-3 times)
8. Install Norton Internet Security 2011, and activate it with your old serial
9. Run Live Update until you get no new updates
10. Restore your Identity Safe data
You can check how the Norton Removal Tool works in this video.
If you used an other security product (non-Norton), please check its website, they usually have a removal tool for these issues.

Ich wollte mal fragen, ob Norton Internet Security 2011 (bzw. die 2012 wenn sie herauskommt) für SSD´s geeignet ist. Damit meine ich die Optimierung, die man im Feld Leistung durchführen kann. Wird die dann automatisch abgeschalten, oder muss man die Optimierung manuell abschalten, da eine SSD nicht so viele Scheibvorgänge verträgt.
Ah...ist Norton 2011 überhaupt für SSD´s optimiert?
